The media of the day never showed him in a wheelchair. I don't know if they were showing some tact or if they felt showing him in a wheelchair would make people doubt his abilities.

While his polices did nothing to end the depression he was a great wartime president and his being wheelchair bound didn't hinder him in that regard at all.

Handicapped?? Not in the least.

Many years ago I remember hearing older folks talk about their surprise or shock or whatever after finally finding out FDR was in a chair. None of them sounded like they were upset with the media for having been kept in the dark for a long time though, which seems strange to me. Don't know what their motive was but it had to be something.

As a somewhat related matter, I've read more than once that the WH press folks kept mum about JFK's fooling around when Mrs. K was out of town or when he was on the road.

Very different times for both those guys.

FDR was the last Pres and the last world leader, that will be handicapped.

And it will more than likely stay that way for generations to come.

Unless you are talking about his morals and disreguard for the Constitution.
