Veronika Grimmer mentioned in post #522 links close by to Simon Sabiani whom the Gestapo helped to escape to Sigmaringen (see map). This is the Marseilles heroin connection to opium smuggling on the SS Exeter:
' In 1931, Paul Bonnaventure Carbone and Francois Sprito reached an "understanding" with Simon Sabiani, Marseille's Fascist deputy mayor, who appointed Carbone's brother director of the municipal stadium and opened city employment to associates of the two underworld's leaders. In return for these favors, Carbone and Spirito organized an elite corps of gangsters that spearheaded violent street demonstrations during the depression years of the 1930s.'
