I know what you mean. It was sort of a mystery among the transporter crew whether or not Data actually fired the disruptor at his captor when he was beamed away. They sort of left it open-ended. But the scene where the villain vaporized his female assistant was pretty ugly. I wouldn't blame Data for wanting to kill him.
