Favorite fake founding fathers quotes

my fave is "A government large enough to give you what you want, is strong enough to take everything you have." -- (not really)Thomas Jefferson

Government big enough to give you everything you want...(Quotation) « Thomas Jefferson

anyone else have a fave fake? :eusa_whistle:

Jefferson sure was right about the real quote:

The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground.

Maybe being labeled a "progressive" isn't as good as they initially thought.

They have to choose something. 'Liberal' is a bad word. 'Progressive' will eventually be thrown into the garbage pile in place of something else.

"If you like your doctor, you can keep him." -B.Hussein Obama.

I realize Obama wasn't a Founding Father. He is the Founding Father of the Socialist States of America though.

Jefferson sure was right about the real quote:

The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground.

"Re-eligibility makes [the president] an officer for life, and the disastors inseparable from an elective monarchy, render it preferable, if we cannot tread back that step, that we should go forward & take refuge in an hereditary one. Of the correction of this Article however I entertain no present hope, because I find it has scarcely excited an objection in America. And if it does not take place ere long, it assuredly never will. The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, & government to gain ground. As yet our spirits are free. Our jealousy is only put to sleep by the unlimited confidence we all repose in the person to whom we all look as our president. After him inferior characters may perhaps succeed and awaken us to the danger which his merit has led us into."

interesting analysis of the constitution...

This one is falsely attributed to George Washington, generally by whackadoo gun nuts:

Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence. The church, the plow, the prairie wagon, and citizen's firearms are indelibly related.

From the moment the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to ensure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable.

The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference; they deserve a place of honor with all that's good.

When firearms, go all goes; we need them every hour.

THere are also a ton of religious quotes out there that are falsely attributed to the founding fathers and early patriots. Many were put into circulation by Dave Barton, a religious snake oil salesman extraordinaire.

Here are a couple of examples:

Patrick Henry: “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

(he never said it).

James Madison: “We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government; upon the capacity of each and all of us to government ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."

(he never said it).

Here's a great blog on the subject: http://scienceblogs.com/dispatches/2006/01/the_fake_quotes_refuse_to_die.php

You, of course, can prove that Obama was wrong.

Actually that isn't a fake quote. That is a real quote. The statement is a lie, however.

No..actually it is not.

What's true is what Grayson said about Conservative health care:

-Don't get sick.
-If you do get sick, die and die quickly.

As administered by Conservative Heroine Jan Brewer - 2 down..many more to go.:clap2:

Of course it was a lie. And he knew it. That's why even elected representatives call him a liar.

Anda re you still peddling the "Jan Brewer kills people" tripe? Anyone who falls for that is an idiot. So much of an idiot they probably think Obama is a decent president.

I havve a fake quote you'll never hear, but something very much like it was said sotto voce

AT some point in time the floundering fathers decided

TO HELL WITH DEMOCRACY, we'll create an Republic so the rabble doesn't screw things up.
