NABLUS, (PIC)-- The Fatah party lost heavily in the Nablus Chamber of Commerce and Industry elections, with independents winning most of the seats.

The results were devastating to the Fatah party, as it spent over a month and a half preparing and paid large sums of money for campaigning amid an acute rift that has emerged in statements by Fatah officials Ghassan Shaka, Sarhan Dweikat and Mahmoud Ishtyeh.

The results mark an ongoing decline in Fatah's popularity. The party also lost in Al-Khalil chamber of commerce elections a short time ago.

The good news here is not Fatah loosing. That has a very nice cool factor, but is not important.

The important thing is there was a reasonably fair election where the votes were counted mostly honestly in an arab territory. This is the single most important step for peace in the middle east

The 2006 Palestinian elections were the most open and transparent elections ever seen according to international observers.

That is probably why the "wrong" party won.

Good for them, good for them. As we know truly collective elections come with with truly collective responsibility, which vile individuals misrepresent as "collective punishment". Duh.
