Not that it's to anyone's surprise, but since Obama became the nominee for president, radical right wing violence has soared.

"A report published by the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point Military Academy on Jan. 15 discusses the potential dangers of “violent far-right” organizations, which has angered some conservatives that believe the military should focus on international threats.

The executive summary of the paper, “Challengers from the Sidelines: Understanding America’s Violent Far-Right,” claims that “since 2007, there has been a dramatic rise in the number of attacks and violent plots originating from individuals and groups who self- identify with the far-right of American politics.”

Written by Arie Perliger, Director of Terrorism Studies at the Combating Terrorism Center and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Sciences at West Point, the paper asserts that three distinct ideologies exist in the “American violent far right.” Those are “a racist/white supremacy movement, an anti-federalist movement and a fundamentalist movement,” the last of which “includes mainly Christian Identity groins such as the Aryan Nations.”

“Findings indicate that…it is not only feelings of deprivation that motivate those involved in far right violence, but also the sense of empowerment that emerges when the political system is perceived to be increasingly permissive to far right ideas,” it later reads.

The rise in attacks in the 21st century were significant, as “Although in the 1990s the average number of attacks per year was 70.1, the average number of attacks per year in the first 11 years of the twenty-first century was 307.5, a rise of more than 400%.”

Chicago, Detroit, Kiladelphia, liberals can't refute the facts. All they can do is call all acts of self defence acts of violence.

Mr. Perliger does not recognize timeless conflicts in the heart of egalitarian democracy. Rather, he identifies extreme forms of dissent with legitimate forms of dissent. Extremism gets identified with the right in general, a continuity exists for him, from the base of the iceberg to the tip. The right as a whole becomes illegitimate, the enemies against a populism of 'we the people/the government'. The identification of the people and the government with the good and the true, and the demonization of legitimate criticism of the leveling corrosive effects of egalitarianism, which is the philosophical grounds for the rejection of the left by the right, (even though the right is not self-conscious enough about the philosophical grounds of their objection) is the bridge to totalitarian forms of democracy. That Mr. Perliger does not recognize elements within government that while operating with the best of intentions in practice are destructive of individual liberty and freedoms simply illustrates that his own thinking belongs 'below the surface', to the dominant non-inquiring modern consciousness.

Check The Occupy incidents....rape, murder, fecal bombs targeted at law enforcement. Is that right wing violence?

Read the study and stop trying to deflect. Radical right wing domestic terrorism has skyrocketed in recent years.

I was born and raised in Utah, now live in Idaho. I'll get back to ya when the 2 most right wing states in American become dangerous. yawn

Most of the homegrown radical right wing militias, KKK/neo-nazi groups, and radical right wing evangelicals are from the bright red south, which also has the highest murder rates.

Just assuming this is correct are you saying this is yet another failure of Obama? It could be an interesting discussion into what is flawed with Obama that would cause this, if indeed it is true. But I will say it is nice to see bad news about Obama being posted by the liberal left. Very open minded of you.

And look at all the wingnuts getting their Gadsen flag undies in a twist over this.

Here's one example:

Vision of loveliness Pamela Geller has taken a break from inciting crazy people to push Sikh dudes into the path of oncoming trains to wonder why West Point is being so mean to “loyal Americans” who just want to violently overthrow the United States government and/or kill some mud people! It is not like the oaths of office we just heard Barack Obama and Old Handsome Joe Biden swear include anything about enemies “foreign and domestic.” And our domestic terrorists loyal Americans just happen to be committing an average of 307 violent attacks per year lately, according to a new report from West Point! So what does Pamela Geller think of loyal Americans using violence to make their needs known?

Most of it likely has to do with the combination of having a black man in office sending their racism into overload mode, mixed with the right wing propaganda machine's non-stop lies telling them Obama is a "communist marxist socialist muslim from kenya" has them completely losing their shit.

Things like being a racist, evangelical, and teaparty supporters all coincide with strong ignorance and resorting to violence.

Hey don't sweat it, Clinton decked a bunch of them at Waco.....

500 deaths by liberals in Chicago alone.. in one year.

The states with the highest murder rates are all bright red. Fail from you as usual.

chicago, all liberal, no guns allowed, 500 murders in one year.. it's irrefutable.

So black gang bangers are liberals? Absolute idiocy LOL- And they can buy the new semi-autos at gun shows and red states- bring them in by the ton and sell them. Great job, pubbies. THAT may be solved soon. 86% are for univers background checks, tin foilers.

RW militias and fundamentalists are NAZIS- they don't need semi-autos. THAT may not happen, but it probably should. Maybe through background checks, registration of semis, background checks on bullets in the long run.

NOBODY wants to stop rifles and shotguns- that's all anybody needs.

It's widespread everywhere.

There have been quite a few attacks on muslim temples and the Sikh massacre is another example. It was done by right wing extremists that I bet were so dumb they didn't realize they weren't muslims.
