This is amazing

I never thought I would see the GOP actually grow a spine

We need a Fireside tweet about this Mr President

#SchumerShutdown

Friday night, Democrats shut down the government over deadlines that don’t exist. Their games could kick 9 million children off of their health insurance and hurt our troops.

Yeah, that's pretty good.

Great, a website that tells you everything you want to believe. Amazing. If only it dealt with the whole picture.

Democrats have been trying to fund CHIP since last year. The republicans refused.

Really? For short periods, yeah...maybe. But the repubs just tried to fund it for six years. Far longer then the Dems have ever desired.

republicans in the House voted to keep the government going

48 republican senators also voted to keep the government going

we only needed 12 democrats

yet, they decided to hold the American people hostage because of demands that law breakers be rewarded

this will get them many accolades in liberal strongholds & is great red meat for their base

but it assures a stronger republican majority in the Senate (which was already likely based on the electoral map)

the white working class, that elusive "working class union type" that used to be a steady and sure democrat voter is being pushed further away by this, and at a time when their paychecks are getting bigger for the 1st time in over a decade

the Schemer Shutdown was ill conceived

And the last time it happened? It was the Republicans shutting govt down because they were in the minority.

Oh, boohoo.

It's either the Republicans or the Democrats doing it to try and gain an advantage over something. The US system DOESN'T WORK. Get a proper system with enough parties that people can actually vote for who they want to vote for and ONE PERSON ONE VOTE.

I agree with this

If we had a plurality of parties, this type of horseshit would not happen

One person one vote? Absolutely

It's past time for enforceable voter id laws

So where do we stand after a year?
Donald Trump’s 12 months in office have been short on achievement and long on frustration. Although his party controls both the House and the Senate, he couldn’t repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, couldn’t make Mexico pay for the border wall, couldn’t prove that “millions” had voted illegally in the last presidential election, couldn’t defund Planned Parenthood, and, perhaps most frustrating of all for him, couldn’t stop the federal investigation into his campaign’s ties to Russian government agents.
Yet you bozos want to support this special type of failure.

Oh good, another person on board. That makes it about three people in like five years. Getting closer to a better way.

Now it's just time to convince the other 120 million needed.

We have a man with balls in the office now, temper tantrums are not going to work.

The anti-Americans siding with the illegals are not going to have their way, this time.

So, this is what our elected officials are doing instead of the jobs we hired them to do.

the biggest issue is fear, fear of losing power

many people point to George HW Bush's reversal on his "Read my lips..." promise as the reason he lost to Clinton, and certainly that played into it

But the reality is that Bush would have won in a cakewalk without the presence of Ross Perot in the race.

Also, many people blame the Green Party for the reelection of Bush (Nader) and for Hillary's loss (Stein - the Nader angle has a little more credibility because the LT party siphoned off as many or more votes this last round than the GP did...)

there really is not that much difference between the 2 major parties; but those differences that exist are all bitterly contested & everyone is afraid to give even an inch because people feel that the stakes are so high

a fractured government, or multi party system, would likely benefit those viewed as "conservative" initially because most independents tend to lean right; but after the dust settled, we would all be far better off IMO

So, this is what our elected officials are doing instead of the jobs we hired them to do.

this shutdown is 100% on the democrats (just as 2013 was entirely on republicans) - they are demanding that Trump cave on a major campaign promise & demanding a very controversial compromise (amnesty for almost 4 million people)

the minority party is pushing too hard for a critical policy issue that they do not have the votes for

47 republican senators and a fair bill that does not address DACA passed in the House

let DACA stand on its own & pass a non controversial budget

Is that what happened? I seem to recall Trump having a 55 minute meeting with both sides on air to show he wanted to "show love" about DACA, CHIP and ANY bi-partisan deal. You all wept with joy that he proved he wasn't insane and distracted from his latest sex scandal. Of course he changed his mind the next day proving he was only doing a skit for his extremely ignorant Reality TV fans.

You can't have it both ways. Trump is for DACA and against DACA. He's for protecting women and against protecting women. He's for immigration (if you're white) but also against immigration. I used to think Romney was the biggest flip-flopper in the history of this nation but Trump makes him look like an amateur.

Let's all keep in our minds that Trump and all of his supporters defend and endorse walking in on underage girls while they are naked, grabbing any woman by her genitals because Reality TV game Show hosts are entitled to assault women and, of course having a long term sexual affair with a porn actress because your own wife finds you disgusting. "But, but, but we're all the moral, straight, white, Christians." The conservatives have been duped by a can man and now will tell any lie and believe any BS story to defend a criminal who conspired with a hostile foreign nation to attack this great country. Bwahahaaaaaaaaaa

The shutdown has nothing to do with what happened this week, it goes back to the inability of the our elected officials to pass a budget as is part of their job requirement.

It is not on one party or the other, it is a systemic problem that can never be solved as long as each side has their cheerleaders like you giving your side a free pass.

As long as we have partisan zealots giving their side a free pass our country will continue to go down the shitter.

I am not being a zealot on this

I am pointing out that the demand that DACA protections are implemented as the left demands is an unreasonable caveat for getting a budget passed for everything else

pass a bare bones budget and let issues like DACA stand on their own merits

He's for immigration (if you're white) but also against immigration

you are either lying or seriously misinformed & confused

this is not about race or skin color, it is about productive & adding real value or non productive & not adding value

there is zero reason to open our doors to people that will come in and immediately start using welfare benefits and relying on government assistance
