Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean denied Republican charges that it would disastrous if his party took control of the White House and both Houses of Congress, saying Monday he's looking forward to the prospect.

"Republicans had a chance to rule. They failed miserably. I think it's time to give the other party a chance," Dean said during an interview on MSNBC.

Recently, Republicans warned there would be serious consequences for the country if Democrats held the Legislative and Executive branches of government after the Nov. 4 election.

Dean denied those charges, saying, "You cannot trust Republicans with your money. They will borrow and spend, borrow and spend, borrow and spend." Howard Dean Associated Press 10/2008

Will someone please inform Howard Dean what form of government we have just in case he has forgotten,

Rule;

government; reign; control
the period of reigning of a particular ruler or government

Correct me if I am wrong here, but since when are we RULED over.

I am voting for and support Obama .... but as far as Howard Dean being the
Democratic National Committee Chairman .... that is something else entirely. :cuckoo:

The man is a loose cannon, if there ever has been one. :cuckoo:

CA, as an Obama voter, do you think that the democratic party cringes when members of their party like Howeard Dean go off on these little tangents like this? Can you imagine how this is being played across the country, I am listening to the morning local radio station and they already have a skit on this on the local radion " WE WILL RULE OVER YOU" made me laugh actually, but the point is can you imagine some poor retiree in Sun City hearing that?

I can't stand Dean. FWIW.

But as far as "rule" is concerned, what do *you* think the repubs did for 6 of the 8 years they were in power? I'd have probably chosen different terminology, but I'm not sure the distinction is meaningful.

jillian I'm probably the wrong person to ask that question too. only because, IMO all of congress in the last 8 years could not manage their way out of a box. Honestly, I don't believe they did much of a job managing themselves much less ruling the country. What I do believe that Washington is run by K Street and it's been a free for all on all sides of the isle for a long time now at everyones expense. Need a bridge no problem here's a few billion, mismanage your company no problem heres 700 billion, need a comprehensive energy policy up yours people. So jillian what I think the republican party did in power was mismanage it along with the democrats that carried on that tradition in the last two years. It is why I advocate that the word change is a laughable one when you re-elect the same people year after year both democrat and republican.

Change will happen with a Dem controlled Senate and House, it may not be the change you want but it most definitely wont be the same politics as usual. Look the Dems know its their ass if they control congress and the screw up. Dont think they will just pass bill after bill will no regard for the consequences. I think they will be very calculated and make sure they are making the right choices or it could set back Dems for the next 10+ years. We may actually be able to get something done in congress with a Congress controlled by one party.

Dean, responding to GOP criticism: What do the Republicans know, huh? They failed things, right?! YEAAAAAAARGH!!

*Dean continues to scream something inaudible as the Nutty Farm guys haul him away*

Navy .... I am sure there are Obama supporters that cringe when they hear him .... just as I am sure there are honest Republicans that cringe when they see and hear some of the statements, mis-statements, and antics from their side of the fence. Take it or twist it into whatever you want.

I do hope your correct jschuck, and while you would think that some of the members of congress would be intelligent enough to realize that, I have my doubts based on their recent history. I completely agree that change will happen, and I do agree that if that change is perceived as bad then the democrats will be looking like the republicans do now. It should be interesting, no doubt.

My own particular frustration is that the dems didn't even pretend to take stands against the past six years of abuses. But I also think it's clear that Bush/Cheney worked with Congress to move an "agenda" that was done without the slightest transparency; that our entire foreign policy had no validity but for enriching a few; cost thousands of lives; and any time anyone objected they were, and still are, called "unpatriotic", "unamerican" or "socialist". I think that's the saddest thing I've seen in government in my lifetime. It's almost like a portion of our leaders and electorate have been lying dorman since the McCarthy days.

I mean, seriously, how sad that people are called "treasonous" because their political beliefs differ.

At least during the McCarthy Era someone said "you, sir, have no honor". Now when people stand up, they're called "leftwingnuts" and "moonbats".

Okay, you're wrong.

You're talking to somebody who joined the NAV because he was about to be drafted. For me the choice was the NAV or prison.

Seems like ruled over to me.

Feel free to speak up in court next month when I defend my freedom for growing a weed in my back yard.

Explain to the Judge that 68% of the people of Maine voted to give me that right, and that he doesn't have the right to rule over me put me in prison, would you?

Apparently he thinks he rules over me and the rest of the people of Maine, too, know what I mean, mate?

Maybe if you explain to him that I am an honorably discharged veteran and a citizen of a free nation he'll suddenly give a rat's ass.

I'm sure they do CA, but was not twisting it into anything. I was simply trying to see what the democratic take on this was is all. As I don't work for the local radio station here , I was using that as an example of how it's being played. However, it can be seen by many as being over stepping and believe me, I have never said republicans are exempt from mis-statements or antics.

jillian,

You know, this era of political discourse has crossed over from the civil to the mean spririted on both sides of the isle. Free speech, and the right to express your opinion are as American as the flag is red , white and blue. Let me be clear here. IT IS NOT TREASON, or UNAMERICAN, however if you noctied in Mr. Deans case I was simply pointing out his that he may not know what form of government we have here. The key though jillian is good , honest debate , while we can agree to disagree , and be civil in that disagreement to cross over into civil discourse is to show a disrespect for yourself and others. I find it interesting that many assume that because a person is a member of one party or another these days they automatically have a set of beliefs that fall in line with everyone in that party, when I submit nothing could be further from the truth. There are many republicans that find the Bush Administration a disgrace, while there are just as many democrats out there who are supporting John McCain. In the end jillian it does not achieve anything to let debate boil down to name calling as we have seen the results of that in the very congress we all elected not only in the last 2 years but the last 8 years.

edit, I really can't comment on your situation as I don't know all the details of it. However, I will say this, as a Navy Veteran your honorable discharge entitles you to my thank you for your honorable service to this nation. As for the the "rule over" part again as I don't know all the details about it, like for example are there local laws that you violated? If so, then how do see those laws as ruling over you, when you can vote at anytime , or as a citizen change them. See what I mean, it's very hard for me to comment here without knowing as it would be unfair to you to just jump to conslusions.
