faith-based support groups for men addicted to pornography

For a change, I actually understand what Hobbit is trying to say. Addiction to cocaine is an irrepressible urge to have more and more. Porn can be the same way, in a different manner. I would think porn is more of a mental addiction, while drugs are a physical addiction (like nicotine).
The porn addict does not need his "high" as frequently. I wouldn't think porn would lead to further crimes such as sexual assault or child abuse. Porn allows the viewer to satisfy his urges, usually through masturbation. Rape is NOT a crime of sex, it is a crime of power. That much I know for sure. The rapist wants control of his victim. Rape and child abuse are both measures of empowerment over the victim.
I would think porn would appeal more to men who either are unable to satisfy their sexual needs with women, or are unable to find a female partner.

Welcome to my ignore list. I hope you enjoy your stay.

So we agree. Religious mania is not normal brain function.

I'm glad we're coming to an understanding, but I still disagree with you on a few points. That whole, "rape is about power" thing may be valid in some cases, but, take it from a guy, it usually not. I'd put money down that most rapists rape because they're horny and unwilling women turn them on. Also, the studies show that porn only satisfies temporarily. It's like Chinese food. You're just hungry again in an hour. Their results are pretty clear that guys who look at porn have sex, or at least try to have sex, more than those who don't.

On a side note: Gabby, you're becoming more polite every day, with the exception of a few outbursts from time to time. I predict that by the end of the year, you'll be thought of about like Bullypulpit: polite, intelligent, and ocasionally skilled at debating, but a bit cooky from time to time. :p For example, the above post doesn't attack me, or even really attack my ideas. It expresses opinion and the reasoning behind that opinion. Keep up the good work.

EDIT: Doh! Can't rep ya.

Are you a rapist? People don't rape people because they are horny. They would just masturbate and save themselves a lot of trouble.

Hobbit, I am not normally malicious. I just try to get my points across. Sometimes I need to be more forceful than other times.

You really should read more studies about rape. I have done so in preparation for my work in adolescent psychology. Rape is about power. Like Powerman said, those looking for quick relief would either masturbate, or find a prostitute. Rapists are also thought to have some of the same chemical reactions as mass murderers. If rape was about sex, the rapist would not target children, or older women. Rapists normally have a fixation -- young girls, older women, blondes, certain items of clothing, certain body sizes, etc. They do not strike at will. That is how so many rapists get caught. Police establish their profile and stake them out.

I find it funny that this went from, cocaine has the same effects on the brain as coke to now they are just both addictive. Has anyone ever overdosed from watching porn. I'm gonna do an experiment this weekend. Throughout the week I'm going to download as much porn as humanly possible. Then I'm going to watch it for about 15 hours on saturday to see if I overdose. Hobbit are you beginning to realize how this claim is complete lunacy?

You may not have overdosed, Powerman, but you will probably be VERY sore!!! :eek2:  :eek2:

You are absolutely full of bullshit about 'rape'. About power? not even...MOST of the time it's about sex - Guys, after overdosing on porn, want to have sex with a child. (shrug). That happens. A lot of times it's homosexuals - i'd say MOST of the time it is. Sometimes guys are so turned on by porn they'll attack anything with a hole.

Except that I'm right. The whole 'it's about control' or 'power' is an argument used to avoid what the Liberals fear most - "Making a judgement call about somebody's sexual desire'.

I am MUCH smarter than you Gabby...I make that statement in good faith, based on the nonsense you post.

You are likely more educated...but you aren't smart. Nor wise.

When a guy gets convicted of rape because 2 days later the woman regretted the sex, it proves it's JUST about sex sometimes. Think Kobe raped that woman? Hell no. Think him having sex w/ her was about power or control? It was about a man getting some from an easy source; then her feeling bad about it later...

You're talking about someone falsely accused of rape, Gabby was talking about real rapists.

I've never sat down and counted the amount of women I know personally who have either been raped/beaten or sexually abused. If given the chance, I would love to sit each and every one of them down if front of this computer so they could give "rape is not about power" remarks some "rebuttal". You MEN should be ashamed. You comments are sickening. D, do you know Kobe personally?

And Powerman, why should we trust YOU?

Actually, we guys have a better perspective on it, and I've never bought the "power" thing. The reason we guys have a better perspective on raging sex drives is the same reason girls have a better perspective on pregnancy and birth, though to a much greater extent since girls *do* have some sex drive, but guys can never be pregnant. To give you a little insight, imagine this: Every 20 seconds to 20 minutes, you have a sudden, uncontrollable urge to have sex. You feel like you could hump anything that moves. This never stops, except when you're unconcious or dead, and sometimes not even then. When guys rape, it's almost always about power. Still don't believe me? I've talked to rapists who were incarcerated, released, and dedicated their lives to keeping others from making the same mistake, and they'll almost always tell you they raped the girl because they were horny and she wouldn't put out. In fact, most rapes occur when a guy starts wanting to get intimate, but the girl says no. The guy's really horny, so he ignores her and has sex anyway. No power struggle there, just a guy who's a slave to his hormones.

What to you call force? As in forcing someone to have sex with you. In order to force someone, there is usually some sort of physical restraint, hitting or choking involved.

You would ask rape victims to speculate as to the mindset of their attacker, eh? That would be good information - valuable...but inconclusive.

You MEN should be ashamed. You comments are sickening. D, do you know Kobe personally?

Why should I be ashamed? And I don't need to know Kobe personally to recognize a woman's struggle for money/fame/infamy.

Speculating on the mindset of someone you don't know. Good one, yet even more inconclusive.

...but I'd argue most 'rapes' are accused based on the situations articulated above...'buyer's remorse' sort of. :(

I will never deny this happens, probably for reasons other than remorse. Parents can charge too.

If it was about power, the guy would just beat her up, tell her her place, and leave it at that. A guy has to be 'turned on' to have sex. Having sex while not horny is physically impossible for a guy. Now, some guy may see forcing sex on her yet another exertion of his power, but in that case, the power trip is secondary, with his desire for sex the primary reason for the rape. Once again, most rapes occur when a guy is with someone he knows, often his girlfriend, gets horny, then realizes that if he wants to satisfy his carnal urges, he'll have to do so without her permission. He's already got the girl right there, and it's certainly better than 'self-gratification' while fantasizing about her, so he just takes what he wants.

Claiming rape is all about power is like claiming that theft is all about power. Common sense tells you that both are simply a case of an individual with no morals simply taking what he wants instead of going through the trouble of acquiring it legally. These guys just think that getting a girl to offer sex is too hard and prostitutes usually aren't very good looking and are dangerous besides. So, like the thief who would rather just take what he wants than work hard and earn it, a rapist would rather just make a girl have sex with him than treat her well enough to get her to offer it freely.
