No link yet, just heard on the radio. They are going to their legal advisor to see about the legality of forcing smokers who work for the county to quit or firing them, and not hiring smokers.

If this is truly about health and lifestyles, then why single out smokers? Why not do the same with obese people and people with risky lifestyles like gay men or promiscuous straights?
Why single out one group? How is this not bigotry?

Tobacco is a legal product approved for consumption the the US Gov't. If it's so bad the Gov't would have passed laws against it by now.

Why haven't they? Huge amounts of Tax Revenue are generated by tobacco sales.

As soon as they can tax the hell out if so etching else they'll outlaw tobacco as libs celebrate by smoking pot

A member of the board of supervisors, whose father died from smoking at a young age, is pushing this. However, there is no other support for it. What he wanted was for smokers to undergo mandatory training to assist them to quit. Nothing has been said about firing anyone, and I doubt it would hold up if they did. What they are currently discussing, but have not implemented, is to offer the training to those who want it - on a purely voluntary basis.

I don't think that's what the story said. The board is getting counsel on whether they can Ho further than just classes. Should the have classes fit gay men and promiscuous straights to discourage irresponsible sex practices?

The idea of "training" (bascially re-education under another name) is just as bad as firing people.

Lots of schools do it now. University of Michigan. Just google search. Becoming increasingly common dye to the bigots that run universities
