Fair Taxes

Doesn't matter. If I earn the money to buy a yacht by busting my ass, then I want a yacht, not to pay some lamewad's High-speed internet bill.

Taxing at the the same percentage across the board is FAIR. Our current system punishes the successful.

Gunny, lets face it, those in the lower incomes are working their butts off, in fact, you will find those in the upper tax brackets actually work much less hard. Ever try cleaning up sh*t off of old people? It pays about minimum wage. I don't think any CEO in any company making all those $million is working nearly as hard as that CNA in that nursing home.

When I was working for United Airlines in reservations, I used to say with perfect honesty that I could do the CEOs job for two weeks and no one would notice a difference but he couldn't do my job for 5 minutes without people noticing a problem.

In truth, the lower paid you are the HARDER you work.

Our income gap is abominable in this country. No one should be making 500 to 1000 times more than their workers, ever. They don't EARN that money, no one EARNS that much money.

Instead of a flat cost (like the $20,000 you mentioned) why not a flat rate (like x% of income)? Why wouldn't this work?

Mike Huckabee's Fair Tax Plan; would this work?

"Huckabee's 'Fair Tax' Plan

Would eliminate all federal income and payroll taxes, including personal, corporate, gift, estate, capital gains, Social Security and Medicare, and shut down the Internal Revenue Service.
Would replace the income tax with a national sales tax of 30 cents on the dollar.
Would provide a prepaid monthly rebate ("prebate") for taxes paid on purchases up to the poverty line, meaning people below it would be effectively exempt from the tax.
Would only apply to new goods.
Is intended to keep the federal government's revenue the same.
Promises to make American products more competitive because prices would not be increased to cover taxes and compliance costs.
Promises to encourage growth by promoting investment and capital formation."

Huckabee Whips Up Debate with 'Fair Tax' Plan : NPR

One reason I can't stand Mike Huckabee: he knows nothing about money. The problem with a system like that is every dollar earned and not spent (invested, earnings on investments) will never be taxed. If I make $60,000 a year, and I live off of $25,000 of it, I can put $35,000 a year into the bank, earn a good interest rate, and I'll never have to pay taxes on it unless I withdraw it to spend it.

Huckabee's a retard.

So, what's wrong with that?

um, thats the idea

How about no income or sales taxes but a 100% inheritance tax?

Make all you want and you don't contribute a dime to the governments. No welfare, no social services, no free education, nothing like that.

But when you die every cent you have goes to the government which divides it equally among the citizens.

Too radical? Unworkable?

No more radical or unworkable than the goofy plan you guys are advancing, let me tell ya'.

how is it goofy?
who spends the most
the rich
they would still pay the most in taxes
and they would do it while putting people to work

true, but dont they do that to all taxes?

Yes, but sales taxes are much easier to get around than income taxes because in order to take a deduction for compensation an emplopyer needs to report the compensation to the IRS and that needs to match what the employee takes in as income.

The service dosn't need to audit compiance as much because there is a financial incentive to report compensation correctly at the employer level.

Turboswede, thanks for the detailed information. I know nothing about taxes and wondered about Huckabee's plan for awhile. Thanks for shedding some light on it.

Alright. It's time to clear up some things because any second now some of y'all are going to have a severe stupid attack.

For starters:

Because it would punish people for spending their money. It's their money and you are going to reach into their pocket and take more of it simply because they want to use it? How is that fair? They worked for that money and should be able to use it anyweay they want. A national sales tax is socialistic

That post is really, really, really, wrong. Which is more fair? Taxing the money you make (all of it) or the money you spend? Taxing only what you spend on new goods and services means that you are not taxed on every cent you made. Stop and do the math without leaping into the fires of partizan idiocy.

i could support it, as long as it exempts food and medical

Bad idea. The more you exempt now, the higher the tax rate will have to be. And, exemptions now will lead to more exemptions later. Keep the regs short, sweet and to the point.

Dude, reread what you wrote. Retarded? Get a dictionary. The word you are looking for is "Fair". And it aint Huckabees plan. It was proposed by Representative Linder from GA. If you are going to disrespect someone, at least study on it ok?

Black Market? So what. It'll give the FBI something to do. The overwhelming majority of Americans will simply truck on down to the 7-11 and buy slurpees. Used goods are not taxed. The used car industry will boom. Most houses sold are not new. Thus they won't be taxed.

The IRS is the closest thing to the Gestapo in America. Consider this:

They know every personal detail about you going back to your childhood.
They know what you do, where you have lived, when you got a raise or promotion.
They know your family members names and ssn's.

And as if that invasion of your 4th amendment rights to privacy are not enough...... Here is a neat lil twist courtesy of the income tax.

In our justice system you are innocent until proven guilty. Not so in the world of the income tax. Every year you bust out the ol 1040 to update the mandated dossier they keep on you. Every year you bust out the ol 1040 to prove to them that you have paid your fair share. You are assumed to owe the .gov money until your 1040 proves your case. You pay penalties and interest, they don't pay you penalties and interest. Look up the property seizure provisions of the tax courts as well.

The fairtax allows us to eliminate a huge civil liberty sucking behemoth while still supporting the .gov with revenues needed to operate. Your privacy is protected since most day to day purchases are anonymous. The logistics are already in place in all fifty states I think for collecting state sales taxes. Thus the national sales tax can be implemented with little to no increase in the size of the .gov.

RTFB guys. Google Fairtax.org and Amazon.com author Linder/Boortz

Of course it won't pass because pols cannot give away the power they have to reward and/or punish by tweaking the tax code.
