It used to be that corporations issued stock to make capital investments - plants, raw materials, infrastructure, etc. or to expand their operations.

facebook didn't raise money to build a 16,000,000 sq ft plant (like Ford did) they already had already built their "campus" and infrastructure with existing revenue. From that revenue they were paying their employees and themselves quite well I'm sure.

NO, they issued stock to "cash in" to make the "big bucks". That's not what it's supposed to be all about. SHEESH!!
 
That's rather cynical. Our economic system is flawed majorly. But saying that FB isn't there to make a profit is rather ignorant imo. Businesses are out there to make money. That's what FB is, a business...

All they have is advertisement income right? They aren't into any hardware/software technology like Google is right?

Bound to fail as soon as facebook.com fad wears out.

Legitimate businesses don't have Banks come in an prop up the stock during an IPO though.

And the "banks" that did so are not banks in the traditional sense. They are "banks" by a new definition invented in just the last few years.

Little ole ladies don't go there to cash their checks, etc.
