This is the first time in my over 50 years where I have seen so much distrust toward the federal government. Many have opinions of the Federal Government as did the generation of the Great Depression--opinons were of the banks.

We see that in polls where 42% of Americans feel they can pick a name out of a phone book to elect a congressman/women & do better. Our current congress only has a 22% approval rating--83% believe that our congress does not even understand their own health care bill.

They have their reasons:

Social Security is bankrupt, Medicare is bankrupt, Medicade is bankrupt, the U.S. postal service is in red ink & in fact the Senate cafeteria is in trouble. All this while the taxpayers of this country have bailed-out everything from A to Z.

But the # 1 reason is our government's incompetent mismanagement of Fannie & Freddie. This-where our federal government decided to co-sign our names to 50% of the mortgages in this country--while at the same time lowering lending requirements. This of course-- is ground zero for this current economic collapse. All roads or should I say all bail-outs lead right back to Fannie/Freddie.

On top of that we had a 787 BILLION so-called economic stimulus bill that was signed into law that none of our elected representatives even read before signing. We found out later that millions in bonuses for AIG & Fannie/Freddie executives were included in this bill--along with tons of pork & wasteful spending that was not designed to create jobs. The very next week our government signed off on another 450 BILLION dollars that had over 8000 earmarks & goodies for elected representatives in it.

Our federal government has decided to issue themselves a no limit credit card--with future generation's names on it for re-payment. Right now your children & grandchildren are $120,000 in federal government debt--(each & every one of them) just on the INTEREST--ALONE for all this massive government spending.

No government should be trusted. Understand we need some government so that we have a place to put the theives and robbers in our midst and to keep nefarious ass holes from other countries at bay.

These things we can do for a hell of a lot less than the 6 trillion a year we currently spend on government at all levels.

Just listening national debt soared to more than 1.6 TRILLION in the past year. Instead of a projected 9 TRILLION we are now looking at 11.6 TRILLION.

This is totally unsustainable.

No one can BORROW and SPEND their way to PROSPERITY. Yet our federal government is sure trying it---:cuckoo:

You guys must be racists, that's what the neocomms keep saying about government opposition today.

I'm not sure if these threads can be categorized as 'Rip Van Winkle syndrome' or 'We lost and now whine every chance we get.' You are the government, you vote in this democracy for the individual who best supports the values of the majority of voters. Get over it.

Were you worried when this happened? Probably not and why would that be?

Americans solidly have rejected the the fringe right wingnuts. Let's move on.

Americans have always loved to hate their government. Nothing has changed. Government collects taxes, Government spends their money.

People do not like to hear that their hard earned tax money is being well spent. Those stories get relegated to the back pages. Stories of government ineptness get front page coverage. Somehow, people like to hear that their tax money is wasted....it justifies their hatred of taxes

I was born in 1981. All growing up, my entire life, I heard the every-day folk talking about "never trust a politician."

Nothing's changed. Everyone's going to be skeptical of a body that controls our money, it's just the way it is. We can't have $0. taxes, either, and so you be a man, take care of your own, and don't sweat the shit you can't control.

Lead with personal responsibility, instead of crying that everything is the Government's fault. Take responsibility for surviving and thriving, despite their moves. Play the game, don't let the game play you. If your taxes make ya broke, so-goes the same for all of your fellow Americans and that can't last, and so society will adjust. Be responsible for your own prosperity, don't point and blame, and you'll lead a better life.

yet the wingnuts insist on deluding themselves into thinking that everyone else really is just as delusional as THEY are .... even though the evidence clearly refutes that notion.
