Didn't I read a story about that once in junior high, To Build A Fire? Guy couldn't get a fire started (he was in Alaska, pretty sure) and he died.

There is a language barrier here. Neither Old Lady and I quite understand what is meant by "dissolve" in this case. To us, to dissolve something is to incorporate something into a liquid, or to end a relationship. Also, to us, to "sketch" is to draw a simple picture.
In the second example you stated that you would not sleep, yet you said that you would periodically "wake up" thus indicating that you were indeed sleeping.
If one lights a fire and gets rocks extremely hot, then covers the rocks and then you lay on the cover, you will stay warm and sleep safely overnight, however, you indicated that it would be a "couch" which could be flammable. Not safe. If you used rocks or burning embers from wood and covered such with a non-flammable covering and slept on that, number one would be the choice.

You can not build a fire ... But you must sit asleep while leaning against a tree. You should wake up every 30 minutes, get up and get warm
