Everyones Nightmare: 23 years in a "Coma" yet Conscious

I read of this with mounting horror and then amazement at the resilience of people. To be locked away from others and the way we see and validate ourselves [connection-contact-communication with others] is horrific. Add to this that medical technology pronounces so finally and then closes the door ... I am aghast.

To medical science the man was a severely incapable being who had no hope. In the light of this he awoke and now lives. Medical science must inevitably ask questions of itself and continually reappraise its judgments.

He wasn't diagnosed as "brain dead".

And therein lies the problem with people politicizing medical issues.

personally, i can't imagine a lot more horrifying than being kept alive while "locked in"...

That's you. Make sure you make a living will.

Because this guy is thankful to be alive and able to communicate now.

My living will is being amended to state in large capitol letters "For the love of God, leave the TV on!!!"
