Nobody disputes the fact that the Ambassador is the most important figure in an American embassy. The whole situation seems to indicate that Marines were either unarmed or instructed to surrender rather than defend the Ambassador and the American Flag. The left's claim that a witness says the Ambassador was "still breathing when found" is important because?

Exactly. The Libyan President has no reason to lie and they are adamant that they had forewarned personnel about security issues.

The fact that there had been an IED attack on the UScompound in June and then 3 other major attacks by militants after that should have had someone going "gee, maybe we better up the ante".

Especially with 9/11 on the horizon.

I love how the left seems to pass over the fact that the support of the Taliban was because of the Russian invasion of Afghanistan since we all know no one would have supported sending in U.S. troops in another little fact the left likes to ignore from that time the person most responsible for arming and supporting them was Democrat Charlie Wilson. Given the state of the world at that time I'm sure it seemed like a good idea to Wilson so I won't lay into him or Reagan for the roles they took back then. It's a lot harder to look ahead 30 years and see the outcome of one's decisions than it is to look back with 30 years of hindsight and see it as more than a few here seem to like to do.

Libyans tried to rescue Ambassador Chris Stevens, cheering "God is great" and rushing him to a hospital after they discovered him still clinging to life inside the U.S. Consulate, according to witnesses and a new video that emerged Monday from last week's attack in the city of Benghazi.

Best method to determine who's telling the truth when things get murky is to figure out who is in a position to gain something from a deception.

CAIRO — Libyans tried to rescue Ambassador Chris Stevens, cheering "God is great" and rushing him to a hospital after they discovered him still clinging to life inside the U.S. Consulate, according to witnesses and a new video that emerged Monday from last week's attack in the city of Benghazi.

The group of Libyans had stumbled across Stevens' seemingly lifeless form inside a dark room and didn't know who he was, only that he was a foreigner, the man who shot the video and two other witnesses told The Associated Press.

The video has been authenticated since Stevens' face is clearly visible and he is wearing the same white t-shirt seen in authenticated photos of him being carried away on another man's shoulders, presumably moments later. The photographer and student who were with al-Bakoush at the scene gave the same account as he did.

The accounts of all three witnesses mesh with that of the doctor who treated Stevens that night.

Dr. Ziad Abu Zeid told The Associated Press last week that Stevens was nearly lifeless when he was brought by Libyans, with no other Americans around, to the Benghazi hospital where he worked. He said Stevens had severe asphyxia from the smoke and that he tried for 90 minutes to resuscitate him with no success. Only later did security officials confirm it was Stevens.
