I hear that the largest demographic in the US these days are the millennials, who are solidly for Bernie Sanders it appears. So, I would not be too surprised if he does get elected in 2020, or someone similar shortly thereafter. In which case, it isn't out of the question at that point that he/she might tear down whatever wall is there by then. In which case, America will no longer be the country I grew up in. How long it stays that way is anybody's guess, could be a long time or maybe not. Some countries have taken a left turn into near socialism and then reversed course, like Sweden did. Too bad if we don't learn the lessons/mistakes that other countries have made in the past, but c'est la vie.
