    And then, the truth:
"The latest data from the Congressional Budget Office and the Internal Revenue Service show that the lowest 40 percent of income earners as a group actually receive net payments from the federal income tax system. (They get 3.8 percent of total federal income tax revenues instead of paying any income taxes.) The middle 20 percent of income earners pay 4.4 percent of federal income taxes. Thus the bottom 60 percent of income earners together, on net, pay less than 1 percent of all federal income taxes. (These workers earn 26 percent of national income.)

The data show that the top 1 percent of income earners now pay 40 percent of all federal income taxes, which is almost double their share of the national income. The top 10 percent pay 71 percent of federal income taxes, though they earn just 39 percent of the nation's pretax income.

This is a result of the across the board income tax rate cuts adopted by Ronald Reagan and the current President Bush, plus the Earned Income Tax Credit first proposed by Reagan in the 1970s, and the child tax credit enacted into law as part of the 1994 Contract With America.

Barack Obama claims to be proposing income tax cuts for low and moderate income and middle class workers, but Reagan Republicans have already eliminated most of their income tax liability. What
Obama is calling tax cuts for the middle class is really a slew of refundable federal income tax credits that would primarily go to those who are paying little or no federal income taxes now.
Such credits would primarily not reduce tax liability, but instead be checks from the federal government for child care, education, housing, retirement, health care, even outright giveaways. These are not tax cuts. They are new federal spending programs hidden in the tax code.

When Obama says that he will cut taxes for 95 percent of Americans, he is talking about his proposal for a $500 refundable income tax credit for all but the top 5 percent of income earners. For the bottom 40 percent of income earners, this will be just another check from the federal government rather than a reduction in tax liability. It is another sharp increase in government spending rather than any sort of tax cut. An arbitrary cash grant does not, moreover, do anything to improve the economy or incentivize productive business. That only comes from cutting tax rates. What Obama is proposing here is really quite similar to George McGovern's 1972 plan to send everyone a $1,000 check, which voters rightly saw as a crass vote-buying scheme rather than serious policy.

    Tax Cuts, Real and Imaginary

Unfortunately, what I'm seeing out there is that people are getting more and more comfortable with McCain lying. They say things like, "ah, they all lie".

And they assume/think Obama is just as big of a liar.

Or they think that McCain is just lying to get the religous rights vote. Or the Corporations. They think he's going to fight the corporate lobbyists. :cuckoo:

This is how stupid the American voters are. They don't call him on it. They just assume all politicians lie, every time they open their mouths. For real.

What did Obama lie about again? Sure he has changed positions, or maybe made more out of McCain's 100 year comment, but McCain has lied/flip flopped on EVERYTHING and I think it is time to figure out who the real McCain is.

The religious right deserve to know and so do the independents. Will the real John McCain please stand up? :clap2:

This is true, I read an article making just that point, that all politicians lie. And to an extent, they certainly do. But McCain's and now Palin's lies are just so blatant that even the media is beginning to laugh at them.

Though I have to admit, in McCain's case it could still be confusion and not technically lying. But Palin doesn't have the excuse of being elderly, so her lies are most certainly lies.

it worries me that people would think McCain's "lying" is just confusion and then vote for him anyway.

what if he goes to make a phone call and uses the phone that launches the nukes?

Palin puts the "vile" in servile. For reals.

My wife is even more put off by her than I am, and she historically votes republican.

    Who's lying on:

    Global warming
    Sending jobs overseas
    Helping the middle class
Tax breaks to the rich only
    fixing nafta
torture/spying on americans/taking away habius corpus
    getting out of iraq
not starting a war with iran

Seems democrats are on the right side of these issues. So for example, anyone who thinks McCain is lying about making the unfair tax breaks to the rich permenant, why vote for the liar. Obama says he won't make those tax breaks permenant. He says he'll give us all a tax break. Maybe he's lying about that? Well then either way, you aint getting a tax break, so might as well go with the guy who MIGHT give you one.

Sending jobs overseas? McCain says let the markets decide. The unregulated markets said SEND EVERYTHING OVERSEAS because it's cheaper.

Obama wants to leave Iraq by 2010. McCain 2015. If Obama is lying, it'll be 2015 when we get out. If McCain is lying, it might be 100 years.

McCain is a hot head. He wasn't lying about BOMB BOMB BOMB Iran.

    Hm.
#1...global warming...not caused by man, lie by the left.
#2...sending jobs overseas...happens when we close down industries and increase the minimum wage and benefits companies must provide to workers, also caused by the left...
#3...Helping the middle class....the middle class, thanks to tax strategy put in place by Reagan an Bush, already receives a pass on taxes, so another lie by the left.
#4...tax breaks to the rich only...a lie by the left. See #3, and consider the fact that the top 5 percent of the income bracket pay 40 percent of all taxes in the US.
    #5...fixing nafta...lefty lie.
#6..torture etc., another lefty lie, based upon the fact that they want to give succor to our enemies, and see Americans brought low.
#7...Getting out of Iraq...What's the lie?
    #8...Not starting a war with Iran..again, what's the lie?

It isn't even the issues that they lie on. It's everything. Really stupid things like McCain claiming she sold the plane on ebay, or that she didn't get earmarks as Gov, or the same stupid sex ed lie that Alan Keyes tried, or that Palin didn't support the bridge to nowhere...it just goes on and on.

What do you think minimum wage should be
You receive a pass on taxes?
They make 90 percent of the money
McCain said he was against torture and now is for it. What? :cuckoo:
McCain doesn't want to get out of Iraq. He wants to stay. Remember the permenant bases? The ones that cost $10billion dollars? It's amazing. You should see how your tax dollars are spent in Iraq Allie.
McCain wants to go to war with Iran. Not seek diplomatic solutions first and then war second. He wants war now. Do you approve Allie?

See Allie, my post wasn't directed at you, because you actually are a neo con. Most people here don't believe McCain is a neo con, where you do. You suck neo nutz. You must be in the navi because I see you on your knees for Bush's seamen.
