European endorsement of Bush!!!

actually, their reasoning makes a lot of sense to me. They are not saying that support Bush cuz he is a good guy, they support him cuz 1) they know what to expect from him (read even the Euro weenies are confused by Kerry's flip-flops) and 2) they know Bush won't ask them for help (Kerry has said clearly that he will put pressure on the Euro weenies to help out)

They probably still hate Bush, they just think that FOR THEM, he is the better choice.

Makes all the sense in the world in my opinion.

the Bild Zeitung that made the endorsement is a daily tabloid in Germany
that has over a million readers daily and operates similar to the SUN in England. They are conservatives that usually in inner German politics
back the CDU/CSU both Christian Democrats who represent the right
in German politics.

THe conservatives are at the moment in the opposition in Germany
but lead in the polls and have a good chance in taking over in the
next election.

Newspapers in Germany historically since WW2 have not endorsed candidates.
The left accuses BILD that they endorsed Bush as a test balloon and will
more then likely endorse Merkel or whoever will be the conservative candidate for chancellor in the next election.

The German right mostly supports the war in Iraq and is opposed to Schroeders stand on that. They want to renew the German-American
partnership after they take over power and they also are opposed to let
Turkey into the European Union. While they not dare to say so publically
it is an open secret that the fact the Turkey is not only poor but also
Muslim is playing a role in that opposition.

BILD has some influence in the political landscape of Germany and have
run nationalistic positions before to embaress the government.

they have a nude girl on page3 every day. In Germany nudity in the media
is considered ok, but violence for example blood in computer games gets
you X rates and banned. Different countries different insanities.

while bild can mean photo they named it more in the context of making up
your own mind on an issue.

Bildung means education.

While Bild mostly uses tabloid style stories about UFO and other BS their
commenting on politics is more real. They use a simplified argument
usually but it still represents the right in Germany. (to a degree)
