EU 'Concerned' About Israeli Cold Shoulder in Yesha

without discussing the merits of the charges against the prisoners and the nimpatiality or lack thereof of the israeli courts in regard to the trials of palestinians, haven't you been posting about how the israeli government and israeli citisens are vehemently opposed, as are you, to the release of these prisoners.

it would seem that more than a compassionate heart is involved in their release. perhaps even, israel holds such prisoners in anticipation of their value as bargaining chips in negotiations.
marwan barghouti refused to recognise the jurisdiction of israeli courts over the palestinians and refused to participaate in his own defense. this did not escape the notice of the irish people, who have similarily been treated by the british courts.

if israel were truly serious about peace, barghouti would be released as he is the only bridge between HAMAS and the PLO.

Bargaining chips?

Israel to trade terrorists for remains

Israel to trade terrorists for remains

one could almost conclude that these so called and alleged "terrorists" are not nearly as terrible as they are made out to be.

one could almost conclude that they are imprisoned for the sole purpose to be used by the israelis to negotiate conditions.

one could almost conclude that an arab, be he or she palestinian or israeli, is frequently tried and convicted unfairly and imprisoned unjustly if israel is willing to release such "terrorists" in battalion size numbers.
One could definitely conclude that Israel had a good reason for why these Arabs are in jail. Meanwhile, there are those of us who worry more about Christian and Hindus being thrown into jails to rot because their neighbors claim that they committed blasphemy against Islam. I have a great idea. Why don't they just open all the prisons in the Seattle area and set the criminals free?

One has to question what their crimes actually were.
How many 'terrorists' were convicted because they tossed a few stones or were simply in the wrong place when kids, pissed off at being ruled by an occupying force, vented their anger with a few stones but others were arrested in mass sweeps, just because they were there at the time.

You also have to remember, when the IDF catch a 'terrorist', they commonly destroy the house so his family have nowhere to live.

HRR 2005

I believe that's collective punishment of a SUSPECT'S family, not even a convicted criminal.

Is there any wonder so many people want to kill the IDF and would love to see Israel disappear?
However, the pro Israeli posters consider this abhorrent violence to be perfectly acceptable whist moaning about a few kids with stones.
Perhaps David should have been arrested as a terrorist but Jewish stone throwers are heroes so that's okay, even when they kill someone.
Why, Freddie, since many civilized people now see what happens in the Muslim world where the Muslims are not only killing non Muslims but other Muslims as well (and given that Islam wants to take over the world), don't you think there are many people all over the world who would love to see Islam disappear. And, forget David, Freddie. Don't you think your Sunni brethren who are killing the Shiites in these modern times are terrorists? I don't think that there are many people who think Jewish stone throwers are heroes, but evidently the Muslims think that whomever murders a Jew is A-OK in their book.

one could also assume that your whole scenario is idiotic since it costs lots of money to house all those prisoners..one could also assume you're clueless:cuckoo:

The EU had no right calling for a boycott either so what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Way to go, Israel. By the way, I think we should call for a boycott of all European goods as well. I'm all for that. Don't buy anything made in Europe. Let's see how they handle that news. - Jeri

Father whose wife and three young children were killed by terrorists doesn’t understand Israel’s approach to murderers

Twenty-two years ago Rabbi Eliezer Weiss lost his wife Rachel and their three young sons in a brutal terrorist attack. The four burned to death in a bus targeted in a firebomb attack.

On Sunday morning, Rabbi Weiss learned that his children’s murderers are expected to go free in a mass terrorist release. The government is planning to free over 100 terrorists, several of them murderers, in a “gesture” to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

A neighbor of Rabbi Weiss, Efraim Holtzberg, recalled the rabbi’s reaction to the news. “He told me he doesn’t understand why the state of Israel invests millions in searching for Nazi criminals around the world,” he told Arutz Sheva.

“Why does the Weisenthal Center track down Nazis who murdered Jews, while here we have Muslim Nazis who murdered Jews, who spilled blood as if it were water, who burned a mother and three children and an unborn baby alive – and they are released? Is there a difference between them and the Nazis criminals?” he asked, quoting Rabbi Weiss.

Holtzberg burst into tears as he recalled the funeral for Rachel Weiss and her children. The four were killed when terrorists hurled a firebomb at a bus full of civilians, setting it on fire.

Netanyahu: No Judea and Samaria? No Contracts with Europe

Netanyahu clarifies that Israel will not sign contracts with Europe so long as it continues to boycott areas beyond the 1949 Armistice Line.

In response to the European Union’s guidelines which forbid any contact with Israeli companies operating beyond the 1949 Armistice Line, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has clarified that Israel will not sign any contracts with Europe so long as the boycott of these regions continues.

Netanyahu met on Thursday to discuss the issue with Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, Finance Minister Yair Lapid, Agriculture Minister Yair Shamir and Science and Technology Minister Yaakov Perry. Following the meeting, Netanyahu said, "Israel will not sign agreements with the EU, so long as the directive on the [pre-]1967 borders remains in effect."

During the discussion it was agreed that Israel will turn to the EU and seek to better understand the implications of the boycott. Jerusalem hopes the Europeans will become a bit more flexible on the wording of the statement that it plans to force Israeli companies to sign as part of future agreements with Europe.

Deputy Foreign Minister Zeev Elkin (Likud) explained to Army Radio the reasoning behind the government’s decision, saying, "We are very much interested in continuing this cooperation with Europe, but we cannot sign some of the new things that the Europeans are trying to add these agreements."

"Once they insist on the pre-1967 borders, we’re talking about very large part of Jerusalem, including Jerusalem-based high-tech enterprises, including very large companies. Under Europe’s proposed new operating method, many Israeli bodies that were not rejected before - will be disqualified."

Hundreds of legal experts from Israel and around the world have appealed to European Union Foreign Affairs Commissioner Catherine Ashton to annul the EU's plan.

The experts are noting that the decision does not have a legal basis, because, they argue, Judea and Samaria is not occupied territory in the legal sense of the term.

Israel has already taken some action in response to the boycott. Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon ordered the Coordinator of Government Activities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza to turn down any request by the European Union which relates to these regions.

Excellent news.
Now the EU can fund projects in Palestine; you know, rebuilding what the Israelis have destroyed in their evil bombing raids.
Schools, that sort of thing.

By that comment I take it you mean the EU should fund projects in Gaza, not "Palestine?" Is that what you mean?

What about Arafat and PLO Billions?

These days every one is obsessed with Hosni Mubarak and his billions and no one bother specially among the Palestinians to ask and wonder what ever happened to the tens of billions of the PLO money and whatever happened to the billions that Arafat controlled? Money that simply disappeared and vanished and so far no credible accounting were ever published and no credible and thorough investigation was conducted of the billions looted from the PLO and PA treasuries. The late Yasser Arafat who associates claimed lived the life of poor man sustaining himself on “zeit & za’ater, labaneh, and homous” amazed a fortune ranging between $ 1-4 billions (Time Nov. 14, 2004) during his tenure as head of the PLO. I remember asking two well known Palestinians with close association with Arafat and the PLO over tea at the Richmond Hotel in Geneva in April of 2005 how was it possible that Arafat was able to keep his power and authority over the PLO all these years without any one within the PLO or Palestine National Council raising any question or openly debating his failed and miscalculated policies? And their answer was quite simple” he controlled the money” and every one around him needed financial favors and he doled the money corrupting every one within Fatah and the PLO and PNC in efforts to keep control and keep himself in charge. The PLO over the years amazed fortune in the tens of billions, money it raised from Arab countries and from levies charged by the Arab Gulf state on all Palestinian workers. The money would come to the private account of Arafat and not to the general account of the PLO as an organization; he then dispensed the money as he chose. The PLO also known to have invested billions in SAMED Industries run and managed by Ahmed Qurai, billions that simply disappeared and remains unaccounted for. There are no accounting of all the investments made by SAMED in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Most of the PLO investments were in “private” names and are lost forever. However Arafat also made good use of the money for his own private and personal use. Oslo was a windfall for Arafat and his private fortune, with over $ 4 billions coming into the Palestinian Authority accounts, accounts under the personal control of Arafat. Israel was the largest contributor to Arafat fortune to the tune of $1 billion. It collected taxes and levies on imports and passed these directly to the private accounts of Arafat, some of which were deposited in Leumi Bank (Google Arafat billions and you will see reports from Brooking Institute, Time Magazine, Taipei Times and Israeli National News and CBS 60 Minutes)

Ramallah Online | What about Arafat and PLO Billions?

The world community that berates Israel for defending itself from constant attacks by the terrorist group also facilitated Hamas’ victory in the 2006 Palestinian Authority election, when it was allowed to run under the name “List of Change and Reform.“

Since then, despite repeated promises to cut off funds for Hamas, international aid organizations and many countries kept on sending money to Gaza, purportedly for humanitarian aid. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency, the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, raises money for Gaza through its Web site, with payments going through WorldPay (part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group ), the Arab Bank PLC in Gaza and HSBC in Amman, Jordan. Those funds come in addition to UNRWA’s annual budget of $400 million.

The $7 billion to $10 billion that the Palestinian Authority has received since 1993 has come from the European Union, the U.N., the U.S., Saudi Arabia and other Arab League countries. France alone has sent more than $3 billion. This influx of cash has done little to advance the development of a viable Palestinian state or of peace in the region. Rather, it has helped to fuel the Palestinian leadership’s terrorist agenda, and kept the Palestinian people oppressed and disenfranchised
