A warm place with no memory.
The EPA is way out of bounds on this one.

When are we going to say "enough is enough is too much"?

15% ethanol blended gasolines in autos- yeah my ass. Big Ag - walk softly and carry a big STICK IT TO YA.

EPA approves more ethanol in fuel for cars - Yahoo! News

I say call a spade a spade and cut the bullshit. Even the Gore Whore admitted it's a farce.
Cull those votes. Pamper the American sweetheart farmer. Tug on the enviro-tree hugging ignorant heartstrings of America because it's the warm and fuzzy thing to do.

The entire premise of the ethanol program was originally intended to:

1) Clean up the air - there is NO quantifiable measurable improvement in air quality solely related to the use of ethanol blended gasolines.

2) Reduce the volume of imported crude oil - look at imports since the ethanol mandate: UP UP UP.

3) Suppport the Ag (read: BIG AG) community by supporting corn prices. Corn prices- and every fucking imaginable product gleaned from the kernel. Yeah corn prices are up- and so are the prices of corn flakes, corn starch, and CORN HOLES.

Do we have a "choice" as to what fuel we put in our vehicles? HELL NO.

Years ago I filled up at a brand new gas station. No ethanol stickers on the pumps. The cashier had no clue whether or not there was ethanol in the stock tanks.
So I figured- oh well- fill it up anyway. Later I called their headquarters and was informed that yes- there is ethanol in that gasoline. So I asked to talk to the manager- he said "well what do you want me to do?".

He ended up sending me a check for the full price of my tank of gas.

It's well enough that we discuss these issues on message boards, but until we bombard our legislators with grievances, there will be no rational decisions coming out of Washington.

ETOH - ETHANOL. What a god damn fleecing.

Ooooh- 10% not enough for the poor wittle fawmers? Fuck, give 'em 15%. Create that market and grow it through unfettered mandates. UNFETTERED MANDATES.

What an insane joke.

Is there any way to make the cars, trucks, ect, run just on ethanol? Might be what Obama might do to get us off oil. His goal maybe to do that or is our only options are to go towards fuel cells and electric cars to move away from fossils fuel. He might do both.

Study: Ethanol Production Consumes Six Units Of Energy To Produce Just One

Patzek's ethanol critique began during a freshman seminar he taught in which he and his students calculated the energy balance of the biofuel. Taking into account the energy required to grow the corn and convert it into ethanol, they determined that burning the biofuel as a gasoline additive actually results in a net energy loss of 65 percent. Later, Patzek says he realized the loss is much more than that even.

"Limiting yourself to the energy balance, and within that balance, just the fossil fuel used, is just scraping the surface of the problem," he says. "Corn is not 'free energy.'"

Recently, Patzek published a fifty-page study on the subject in the journal Critical Reviews in Plant Science. This time, he factored in the myriad energy inputs required by industrial agriculture, from the amount of fuel used to produce fertilizers and corn seeds to the transportation and wastewater disposal costs. All told, he believes that the cumulative energy consumed in corn farming and ethanol production is six times greater than what the end product provides your car engine in terms of power.

That's obscene.

How many units of petroleum are required to produce one unit?

Or lives? We have recently spent around 5,000 lives or so and wrecked the lives of tens of thousands more. And that is only the american lives. spent a trillion or so.
For oil.

Oil is not just the $ price per barrel folks.

It doesn't rate even that high some porn is tittilating to most people but putting in this rule during a time of worldwide food shortage will be non-tittilating for almost everyone.

We base our economy on petro chemicals because it is basically free energy. As best as I can tell 10 years ago it took 1 unit of energy to extract and refine more than 20 units of petro energy, today it may be more like 1 unit of energy to extract and refine 10 or fewer units of oil energy.

Coal is still a bargain. Ethanol is not.

Then let us drill for our own. If you don't, you're perpetuating the problem.

And it's not just the insane inefficiency...this "green" fuel is killing the Gulf of Mexico.

The more of our oil we save the better off we are.

On this end of the peak oil curve it is always cheaper to buy other people's oil today than it is to deplete your own which you can not replace later.

You believe that we can drill and get enough oil to sustain our habit?

I have a genuine superman cape I would like to sell you. actually deflect bullets.

I'm with you on that. I just grow tired of those who say we must get off foreign oil but refuse to support realistic alternatives.

There is no Magic Energy.

Then how many of those 5,000 lives do you want to take responsibility for?

How exactly do you produce the ethanol without oil? You're going to have to try harder USC. I agree that dying for oil is wrong. So lets allow the US oil fields to be exploited that way we no longer need to get our oil from overseas. Deal?

You need to keep that Superman cape if you think that expending 6 units of energy to get one makes sense.

None, since I viewed the Iraq premptive invasion as an aberation (sp?) to what the USA is supposed to stand for.
I was called unamerican, terrorist supporter, etc for my stance.

Obama wants to make farmers in Iowa happy while increasing air pollution and global warming, and decreasing food supplies? I doubt it, more likely he just likes the donations he gets from them.

If you figure producing gas like producing ethanol. ie exploration, drilling dry holes, pumping, transport, refine, and more transport, building pipelines, and the wasted natural gas from oil wells that is just burned off in many cases. Then how much energy was spent on the exxon valdez cleanup, the gulf cleanup, and many other oil spill instances.

Try he doesn't want to establish a veto proof GOP majority in the senate, farmbelt Ds are an endangered species and every state has two senators.
