EPA to Approve Grain Sorghum for Cleaner Ethanol - ABC News

Adding another layer of failure to an already failed program, the EPA approves animal feedsock (sorghum) that will result in "cleaner" ethanol. What's that? Ethanol isn't clean to begin with?

Almost all the ethanol produced in the U.S. now is conventional ethanol made from corn starch. Critics of the ethanol industry complain too much corn is going to energy production, resulting in higher food prices for consumers. Corn affects food prices in multiple ways because it's a widely used ingredient in food manufacturing and it's used to feed livestock.

More grain sorghum going to fuel production is unlikely to spark the same complaints, because it is not the main ingredient in a number of foods. While it can be used in human food, it's sold mainly to feed poultry, cattle and other livestock.

So, look for a rise in the price of poultry, cattle, and other livestock.

Geez Louise on the one hand, we grant agriculture every conceivable outlet for their products and on the other hand we attempt to hammer oil/gas/coal into oblivion.

EPA... Everything Privileging Agriculture.

Ethanol's been a failure for a long time. Too bad the nimrods who run this country haven't gotten that memo yet.

Granted, this is a 10 year old graph but it's easy to see that Agriculture would not exist if not for hydrocarbons. So, rather than promote increased production of oil/gas/coal our government finds way for Agriculture to use MORE hydrocarbons for the sole purpose of getting their incremental bushel of grain to market.

Wouldn't it be lovely if the EPA mandated that a given percentage of domestic petroleum usage originated from U.S. oil fields?

How about an oil producer's tax credit?
Maybe some insurance against falling market?
Or insurance against adverse weather that shuts in production?

Suck on Big Ag's tit, fuck oil and gas in the ass.
