SNIP:

Victor Davis Hanson

Apr 12, 2012 Sign-Up In 2008, a mostly unknown Barack Obama ran for president on an inclusive agenda of "hope and change." That upbeat message was supposed to translate into millions of green jobs, fiscal sobriety, universal health care, a resetting of Bush foreign policy, and racial unity.

Four years later, none of those promises will be themes of his 2012 re-election campaign. Gas has more than doubled in price. Billions of dollars have been wasted in insider and subsidized wind and solar projects that have produced little green energy.

Unemployment rates above 8 percent appear the new norm, when 5 percent in the past was dubbed a "jobless recovery."

From the Middle East to the Korean peninsula, the world seems on the brink. Modern racial relations are at a new low.

If borrowing $4 trillion in eight years was "unpatriotic," as Obama once labeled George W. Bush, no one quite knows how to term the addition of $5 trillion in new debt in less than four years. ObamaCare is unpopular with the public. Its constitutionality now rests with the Supreme Court.

After four years, the claims of "Bush did it" and "It might have been worse" grow stale. So re-election will rest not on a new agenda, or an explanation of what happened, but on a divide-and-conquer strategy. Translated, that means Obama will find fissures in the voting public over fairness, expand them, and then cobble together various angry partisans in hopes of achieving a bare majority. Such an us/them strategy is not new in American history.

There are suddenly new enemies called the "one percent" -- those who make more than $200,000 per year and who "do not pay their fair share." Apparently in a zero-sum economy, this tiny minority has taken too much from the majority and thereby caused the four-year lethargy that followed the 2008 meltdown. Andrew Jackson, William Jennings Bryan and Franklin D. Roosevelt all ran, with varying success, against the selfish "rich."

The most powerful man on Earth has launched a race and class war.

President Romney will have his work cut out for him trying to unite us once again.

I agree...it's not going to be nice!

It just blows my mind that there are still so many people out there that think obama has done such a great job! When you can look all around you and see people suffering worse than they were 4 yrs ago. More countries hate us more than they did 4 yrs ago....and the leaders of those countries have nothing good to say about obama, even after all his apologizing!

He's made a mockery out of our military. He's tied their hands...they're in even more danger because he isn't letting them do their job. He's made them into punching bags for the terrorists.

He's seperated this country more than i've ever seen it. It's more important than ever right now for the American people to step up and start fighting to get our country back, and start voting for our "country", not voting for "parties" left or right.

Obama hasn't worked on the economy well, but some of these criticisms are off the wall.

Agreed, I am no fan of Obama for sure.

But it is an interesting study in human nature to watch the partisans going about their partisan business.

Is it time now for Bertie Wooster to come and tell me how partisan I am?

In 2008 Barry had no record and a LSM drooling all over him. Folks were sick of Bush and the Reps so Barry swept into office on his Hope and Change message.

Three years later we all see how Hope and Change is going, going and gone.

Barry now has a record, sucky at best. Hope and Change is a dim memory. Barry knows he can't run on that oh so sucky record in fact you won't even hear him mention it on the campaign trail. He certainly won't touch his signature legislation, Obamacare, with a ten foot pole especially if the SC kicks that clusterfuck to the curb.

That leaves class warfare. Divide and try like hell to conquer and hope to hell no one remembers how sucky you are as POTUS.

If democrats really believed in the enemies of the people don't they have an obligation to order the immediate arrest of all those enemies? Some younger people, notably those in the OWS movement are slowly coming to the realization that if democrats are right, yes, all these enemies of the people should be taken off the streets where they can no longer harm the people.
