A lot of them are currently COMPETING with services and efforts that exist in the private sector. Consider it a "merger".. Like the mergers that go on everyday in the Real World.

The Commerce Dept -- for instance, exists to PROMOTE corporations and business abroad. Almost every specific market has it's OWN promotional effort outside of Govt. Don't need MORE corp/govt collusion. Set them off to be "wild" again and not pigs at a trough. Same with Dept of Ed. Nothing there makes a school's admin easier, smarter or more efficient. And the states and local munis can absorb folks that have a CLOSER INTEREST to the classroom.

Only problem would be the real estate market around the "beltway". Probably would be affordable again..

Remember also -- that the 40% figure is already counting state, local AND fed positions. MANY or maybe even a MAJORITY of jobs are duplicated at too many levels.

I agree with you. I worked for the State for years and it is the most inefficient, head up its ass mess of anywhere I ever worked. What I'm puzzling out is, won't this put huge numbers of people out of work, causing another massive dive in the economy? That should be thought out--where they go, or how they go. Attrition, maybe?

If you worked at that level -- you probably had one hand tied behind your back by some rules or edicts from the Federal level. THere's not gonna be an army of bulldozers going thru D.C. It's a change in mgt style and accountability that will create a TREND towards more incentive based, responsive govt at the Fed level.

I'd PREFER that these folks go work at the State/Local level. Private companies that they compete with would get BIGGER -- I suppose. The Nature Conservancy is better respected in the Enviro world than US Forestry or BLM. FWIW --- I PERSONALLY think we ought to GIVE 50% of the lands that BLM manages back to the Native Americans !!! Creating PLENTY of jobs working for the Indians who would soon OWN this country again !!!! Either in their casinos or managing resource and conservation programs.


About 20% of Commerce and Education would be moved to other Depts. Commerce has "Weights and Measures" for example which SHOULD probably be a focus of the Feds. And all the "civil rights" aspects of Dept of Ed could have another home.

There can't be one simple answer because of the degree of screwed upedness varies so much.

Wind and water power for example are stone age technologies and the best turbines are patented in Iceland and are stone age designed but with a combination of CAM/CAD and material science..Those Turbines are not permitted to be used in the US because it might upset donors.

Because of Obama's overreach in Eastern Europe our missile defense system is obsolete.

Yes and no. Deliberate political conspiracy no. De facto conspiracy to keep ad revenues up happen regularly. Ds are somewhat more prone to accept bribes, which advertisers love and that is why the liberal press exists in current form..
