Education Post: $88,000/ yr.

>

While I recognize the fun in taking a sensational headline from the - well - not even a real story as it provides no detail. Personally I'd like to see the job posting itself before commenting.

1. Nothing in the article says it's a "teacher" position. More than likely it is an administrative position with central office and not a classroom teacher.

2. Not all positions in the school system are "8 months", only instructional positions are 9 months.

3. I highly doubt the position primary core functions is to simply to fill condoms in the high schools. More than likely this is a Health and Wellness Coordinator/Manager position that supervises the HIV/AIDS portion of the New York Cities required HIV/AIDS Education Mandate and is responsible for coordinating resources within each school, coordinating education teams within each school and developing/providing professional development to teachers in the schools.

4. I don't see any such position posted in the New York City Department of Education Web site. ((LINK)

Now, not saying I agree with the position, not defending anything. Simply pointing out that from the limited information from the OP a reasonable person cannot support the assumptions posted in this thread. More information about the level of the job and the duties of the job would be required to comment. Kind of like saying that because as a Human Resources Information Systems Administrator and one thing I do is help take fingerprints for new employees that it's: (a) the only thing I do and calling my position the "Fingerprint CZAR", and (b) assume just because my position is with a school system that I only work 8 months a year (actually teachers work 9) when in fact I work 12-months a year.

Yes. The job is with the Dept. of Education. They work 12 months a year.

On a personal note... My son attended a Catholic college, where condoms were not easily available on campus. He ordered a case from some AIDS organization - for free - and was the "go to guy" in his dorm. I guess you could say he was the self-appointed "condom czar". But he did it for free.

The former condom czar, Amrita Harbajan -- the first person to hold the position since its 2005 creation -- no longer works for the agency, which runs the program with the Department of Education. ]

Perhaps she was ejected from her position prematurely. Now someone else will have to stand for this hard task and handle all the friction that cums with the job while containing the fallout.

How do you describe your job to people you meet with a straight face?

Of course, the idea of farming it out to a private company to keep the schools in supply has yet to cross their minds.

And this is what we get from academia.

No...even more:

Details about the new sex education curriculum in New York City public schools are out -- and some are concerned the lessons are too racy.

The New York Post obtained workbooks that will be used for the new recommended curriculum, which begins in middle schools and high schools around the city next spring. Parents, they say, may be shocked by details of the work.

Middle school students will be assigned "risk cards" that rate the safety of different activities, the paper says, from French kissing to oral sex

IMAGINE you have a 10- or 11-year-old child, just entering a public middle school. How would you feel if, as part of a class ostensibly about the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, he and his classmates were given “risk cards” that graphically named a variety of solitary and mutual sex acts? Or if, in another lesson, he was encouraged to disregard what you told him about sex, and to rely instead on teachers and health clinic staff members?

88K for stocking condoms.... and they wonder why education is broke.
Education isn't broke at all, they just have their priorities screwed up.

The socialist system will never go broke as long as they have your money...

"The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money [to spend]." Lady Thatcher

But the essence of 'broke' is in the sense of their mission.

Is this an Internet spoof? What would this person do exactly? If anyone ever wonders why Americans are growing dumber, they only have to check wingnut sites for the most intelligent and inspiring writing about the most inspiring and intelligent topics. Get a life folks, get a life.
