Should school districts be allowed to spend $400k+?

It hasn't been cheap or easy for Carver to absorb a charter school. The district has spent $450,000 to cover extra costs associated with the Arabic program.

When they can't even keep their budget straight..

None of the board members disputed the fact that the $2.2 billion budget was nothing more than a compilation of undecipherable spreadsheets. Yet three out of five board members signed off on it, nevertheless. Their reasons differ, but as the voiceofsandiego.org's Vladimir Kogan reported last week, at least one board member believes that the governing board's role is limited to approving the budget, not formulating it. That same board member also believes that the community doesn't have a right to get involved in the budgetary process.

Well, 450k out of 2.2 billion is like fussing about buying a gumball when you have ten thousand dollars. Sure, it sounds like this district needs to get it's finances in order, but I find your concern about this specific program, which is relatively speaking quite small, and it's effects on the budget to be rather strange.

Personally, I'm glad to see school districts offering Arabic. God knows they have plenty of oil over there, and Dubai's becoming a real trade hub. Not to mention how badly the army needs translators.
