EDITORIAL: No Obamacare for Obama

President Obama declared that the new health care law "is going to be affecting every American family." Except his own, of course.

The new health care law exempts the president from having to participate in it. Leadership and committee staffers in the House and Senate who wrote the bill are exempted as well. A weasel-worded definition of "staff" includes only the members' personal staff in the new system; the committee staff that drafted the legislation opted themselves out. Because they were more familiar with the contents of the law than anyone in the country, it says a lot that they carved out their own special loophole. Anyway, the law is intended to affect "ordinary Americans," according to Vice President Joe Biden (who - being a heartbeat away from the presidency - also is not covered), not Washington insiders.
Mr. Obama frequently tossed around the talking point that the new law gave people the same type of coverage as Congress enjoyed. In his March 20 health care pep talk to wavering Democrats on Capitol Hill, the president said one of the advantages of the health care legislation was that "people will have choice and competition just like members of Congress have choice and competition." At yesterday's signing ceremony, Mr. Obama said Americans will be "part of a big pool, just like federal employees are part of a big pool. They'll have the same choice of private health insurance that members of Congress get for themselves." But the American people will have a public pool; the executive branch and congressional staffers kept their country-club pool private.

"It's a big fucking deal." :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Are you all REALLY this stupid? There is nothing in this bill that is going to force me to change health insurance plans either. In fact there is noting in this bill that is forcing anyone with insurance to change what they have. Why should the POTUS be any different?

Ain't DELUSION Grand?

Now understand kids... she actually believes this.

And she no doubt feels that she's an intelligent human being; and as such her assurances should be accepted by other intelligent human beings; because she is after all, a virtuous person; who would NEVER advance such an Assurance without first hand knowledge... having read the entire 3000 page bill and throughly cross referenced the thousands of other statutes which this bill modifies; thus fully understanding the myriad of contextual facets relevant to this bill.

Naturally, anyone who is working on the premise that the heaping on of regulatory liability onto the Insurance industry MUST and can ONLY result in the corresponding increase in premiums... which will serve in effect as this bill forcing people to drop or CHANGE their policy... are simply ignorant tools of the Corporate Oligarchy... and that these basic principles of economics are otherwise irrelevant.

Wouldn't it have been much easier to simply admit that I am right in the fact that there is nothing in this bill that will force me to change my insurance policy if I don't want to? Why is the truth so hard for you guys? Oh yeah, it flies in the face of your talking points. My bad.

How will a large increase of the number of younger, healthy people without health problems paying into the insurance pool cause the price to go up?

How will being forced to cough up a little more of their hard earned money allow the younger healthier people to save for their retirement, when the collapse of the federal government will insure they receive no Socialist Security?

I'm not sure what your angle is. The tax is 2.5%. When I was in college, my income was less than $20,000 every year I was in college. That would mean under Obamacare I would pay no more than $500 a YEAR for health insurance.

Are you suggesting young people should not have health insurance? Then who the fuck is going to pay for them when they wind up in the emergency room with a life threatening injury or illness? Do you expect the owners of the hospital to provide charity in that case? Or do you expect them to just die?

I am suggesting that people should have the FREEDOM to choose how they spend that $500 per year. Or more if they make more than minimal wages. A little here, a little there, pretty soon you have no discretionary income at all.

OK. But you still haven't answered my question. When the young adult who doesn't have insurance winds up in an emergency room in need of life saving care, what happens?

1) The doctors who receive him go against all medical training (and laws in most jurisdictions) and allow the kid to die.

2) The doctors perform the life saving treatment, kid lives, and the owners of the hospital are force to pay for it as charity out of their own pockets

3) The doctors perform the life saving treatment, kid lives, and the owners of the hospital are force to pay for it temporarily but eventually are compensated by taxpayers.

Which of the 3 choices would you prefer? Because if the kid don't have insurance its going to be one of those 3. Or should we just stick our head in the sand and pretend that it doesn't matter?

I believe you are confused. That "Tax" does not give you any health benefits. it is simply a penalty for not having insurance.

Then I guess you'd better get health insurance. Why would anyone want to pay for nothing?

Then the Dems will vote yes on this?

If You Like the Health Plan You Have, You Can Keep It.

President Obama promised that Americans who like their health care plan would be able to keep it. However, the Congressional Budget Office has said that millions of people will lose their current coverage under The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Unfortunately, for many Americans, the reconciliation bill is even worse news, as it made changes to some grandfathering provisions. The changes to grandfathering provisions would mean that individuals with guaranteed renewable plans in the individual market will NOT be able to keep their current coverage at the current price, but would immediately be issued a new policy and charged more. This amendment strikes changes to grandfathered plans, so Americans who like the health care they have actually can keep it.

Go to the link. These are amendments that Sen. Coburn is proposing.
