Economy grows for the third straight quarter

And, seeing as how this thread went on a tangent, let's get back to the main point:

The economy seems to be coming back quite nicely, which is good news all around.

Initial unemployment claims for April.

In the week ending April 24, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 448,000, a decrease of 11,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 459,000. The 4-week moving average was 462,500, an increase of 1,500 from the previous week's revised average of 461,000.

Where are the jobs?

Where are the jobs?

When government is on a roll to increase from 20% to 30% of GDP, there is not going to be much job creation in the private sector. The government is sucking up all of the oxygen.

There's a reason why Western Europe has structural unemployment higher than the U.S.'s full employment level: Big Government. We're headed towards permanently high unemployment if we don't reverse the expansionb.

A lot of ignorance on display here.

It was unregulated capitalism in the form of the derivative Ponzi scheme that created the unemployment in America, not "big government." In fact it was the lack of government regulation that created the economic collapse.

And just for the record Sweden's unemployment rate is lower than ours...

That Ponzi Scheme was the offspring of Big Government Cronyism. Without Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac providing taxpayer insurance for the risk others were taking, the CDOs would have been a minor instrument due to the lack of a housing bubble.

The Swedes have a small country with a homogeneous, highly educated population. Their economic improvement has benefited from deregulation and privatization of pensions - both things we should emulate.

Horseshit...

The Ponzi scheme was the result of unregulated capitalism.

Nice try, though.

Get a fucking job douche bag....and earn it. Oh wait...your mentally retarded...I don't mind paying for you.

This is obviously proof of what I have been saying. The far right whinge fringers are motivated by hatred and greed. They are clearly losing on their issues, so they get vile. No problem. Just laugh at the losers.

A single payer system is not socialism. A single payer is not nationalization. A single payer is a cooperative run by the electorate to more fairly negotiate with the private health insurance industry for a pricing system that will not break the piggy bank yet more than adequately permit private companies to make a good profit.

This is a good point, and I think it was also made by another poster, via wiki link.

"Single Payer" is not in fact "nationalized health care", nor do I see any reason why it should become "nationalized" health care if a "pool" is used in this way among private insurers.

Since Health Care, defined has health insurance by the Democrats own bill will be provided solely by the U.S. Government and there will be no other option, that is Nationalized Health Care.

You guys can play semantics all you want, but the fact is "single-payer" IS nationalized health insurance.
