I'm just wondering why more magnitude is given to this sin. And since priests are supposed to not be sexually active why should anyone even inquire about their sexual preference to begin with? It shouldn't even be an issue. I'm just trying to figure out where all of this hatred of gays comes from. I think that most people intuitively hate gays and religion is just an excuse to justify it.

Who says it is? You dont think when priests commit other sins they dont try to stop doing it and confess it? Its not like they say, oh, sinning is ok, unless its homosexual sin.

The hatred isnt coming from those who oppose homosexuality on this forum, but from you towards catholicism and religion in general. You really should seek help

Im wondering, this judge up in Vermont just sentenced a guy who raped a 7 year old girl to 60 days of therapy. He is a secularist by everything I see. He doesnt believe in punishing sexual offenders, but rehabilitating them. He has told women who are raped that "they simply experienced one of the hardships of life". He has been extremely lenient on pedophiles on a somewhat regular basis. I dont see you getting all up in arms over that.

If the homosexuals aren't having sex they aren't sinning right? So from a sexual standpoint they have done no more sinning than a heterosexual who is not sexually active. So you would be discriminating against them not on the basis of sin but on the basis of bigotry. How does this not make sense to you guys?

But all priests are supposed to make vows of chastity so sexual orientation shouldn't matter. If a non practicing homosexual wants to become a priest what's the problem. Afterall isn't it the stance of catholics that a homosexual is in fact not sinning if he prohibits himself from doing homosexual acts? So if a gay man can refrain from any gay sexual activity he has committed no homosexual sins. So why can't he become a priest? The answer: bigotry.
