Downfall: opening the book on the final days of Adolf Hitler

Good flick (netflix). I wondered if it was based on fact so I googled.

It makes me wonder why one person had so much sway over so many people who did such awful things....for such an evil man.

I wondered the same thing so I read his book several times and read several WW2 histories and watched a lot of old History Channel documentaries.

Ultimately I think the little people put Adolf into power, the same as with Trump.

From that point on Adolf systematically murdered his opposition the same as Stalin did.

When he finally had complete power he remobilized for war the same as Reagan did.

When he became really strong then England and France and even Russia were afraid of him and gave him everything he wanted.

The last straw was Poland, which Adolf and Stalin had divided together.

England called that the last straw and precipitated WW2 at that point.

Then Adolf simply grabbed France, his arch enemy.

He was at his height of popularity after his capture of Paris. The Germans thought he was a god at that point. They worshipped him then.

When he turned on Stalin everyone was afraid he had become unglued.

He had.

But the Germans trusted him because he had won every engagement so far.

Russia was his downfall.

Normandy was the final nail in his coffin.

So imagine Trump 5 to 8 years from now and you have Adolf all over again.

Hitler came to power while Germany was in the grips of an economic crisis due in great part for WWI "reparations", he turned it around, the people believed in him, Germany's easy early successes on the military front boosted his appeal to the people. Unfortunately he had duped the nation and Germany was in too deep before his agenda became clear to the people.

Funny then, it is taken from several histories and documentaries.

The wildest part about Adolf is that he had a second manuscript to his book which is a volume 2 where he lays out his intended conquest of America too.

I must disagree with you about Trump really knowing about the presidency now. He never did have and still does not yet have a clue about the responsibilities of the United States Executive.

they aren't even remotely historical parallels. The Wiemar Republic was overrun with street gangs battling for dominance, while the government was essentially helpless and unable to enforce law and order, thanks to parts of the Versailles Treaty limiting its military to 100,000. The Reds alone had over 2 million, the Nazis some 3 million street thugs they could arm and put on the streets. It's not rocket science to see how such a condition leads to thugs running the country. And, there is no compelling evidence the Communists would have been any better if they had won out over the Nazis; just different demographics would have been slaughtered and WW II would still have happened, only probably earlier, ans the Reds joined with Stalin, and Stalin purged them in turn, and moved on France instead of Poland.

The "Final Days" don't consider the early days when FDR could have (and should have) stopped the Nazis during the 30's but that's another question. The incredible historical fact is that the leadership in the German military wanted to do away with Hitler but they couldn't come up with a rational plan that didn't involve a crippled one eyed veteran and an explosive device.
