Don't worry about michelle

Did you read the article?

There has never been anyone in the White House at any time that has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady's social life. One wonders why she needs so much help, at taxpayer expense, when even Hillary, only had
three; Jackie Kennedy one; Laura Bush one; and prior to Mamie
Eisenhower social help came from the President's own pocket.

Note:
This does not include makeup artist Ingrid Grimes-Miles, 49, and
"First Hairstylist" Johnny Wright, 31, both of whom travelled aboard Air Force One to Europe.

I thought she was the most educated, most capable first lady in history, she even has her Mom being housed and fed by the taxpayers to help her out and yet she needs 24 people?
This administration is easily the most excessive in history, they are all full of shit. You clowns should quit bending over backwards trying to defend these assholes, you'll hurt yourselves.

Are you positive that Laura Bush had only one Staff member? What is your source for that?

the article was the source!

You haven't answered my question...are you positive that Laura Bush had only one staff member? (Are you sure the article is accurate?)

There has never been anyone in the White House at any time that has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady's social life.

How do you know?

I've never seen a complete list of staff for other first ladies.

Oh, and what makes you think those duties are a "facilitation of the First Lady's social life"

From Wikipedia:

First Lady of the United States is the title of the hostess of the White House.

The Office of the First Lady of the United States is accountable to the First Lady for her to carry out her duties as hostess of the White House, and is also in charge of all social and ceremonial events of the White House. The First Lady has her own staff that includes a Chief of Staff, press secretary, White House Social Secretary, Chief Floral Designer, etc. The Office of the First Lady is an entity of the White House Office, a branch of the Executive Office of the President.

If Laura Bush had that many people working for her on the taxpayer dime than shame on her too.

However pointing to Laura's possible bad behavior does nothing to dimishish Michelle's poor behavior.

You're right that two wrongs dont make a right Plymco, but if she's merely working off of what others have done in the past you've got to temper your anger a little bit, don't you think?

I mean imagine you're the first lady (tight little dress and heels) and someone says "we have this budget for you to spend" Let's remember she's ivy-league educated of course. Did she have input (or even make demands (withholding sex from the B-man? ha ha ha)) on what what her budget would be?

I can see her being intimidated by what staffers told her the norm was. I can also see her steamrolling her way to a higher budget.

We don't really have many facts, do we? Someone in Obama's camp set her budget...and if it's out of the norm with a) what was done in the past AND b) the cuts needed to contribute to lowering the financial crisis...the responsible party should be ashamed.

National Journal lists all of President Bush's and First Lady Bush's staff here:
NATIONAL JOURNAL: 2007 White House Salary List

15 of those include "First Lady" in the job.

If the article is so off as to claim only "one" for Laura Bush then I have grave doubts about the rest of it's accuracy.

don't just count the names, several are listed twice.

More and more interesting...the source of this so called "article" is an anonymous chain email:

From Factcheck.Org:

Q: Does First Lady Michelle Obama have an "unprecedented" number of staffers?

A: A spokeswoman for the first lady says that Michelle Obama currently has a staff of 24. That may indeed be the largest of any first lady, but Hillary Clinton, with 19 staffers, and Laura Bush with at least 18 and perhaps more, weren’t far behind.

...The chain e-mail’s author claims that "[t]here has never been anyone in the White House at any time that has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady’s social life." The author claims that "even Hillary, only had three; Jackie Kennedy one; Laura Bush one." But the counts for those first ladies are incorrect – and they’re way off.

I counted 12. so as of right now mo is almost double that

Now we're getting closer to some real ability to form a conclusion.

280,000$ (let's just take that article's updated figure as true, though we haven't checked the facts)

On one hand $280,000 would be a huge amount of money to a lot of folks.

On the other hand it's a drop in the bucket of the federal budget.

On the other other hand, if we let lots of "little" things go, that's how budgets get out of control.

On the other foot, is this in line with the amount of change between first ladies we usually get? (I'm betting not since its around 30%)

This does seem excessive to me. A 30% increase at a time when cut backs are supposed to be taking place. Now it's time for Obama's people to bear the burden of proof to me.
