That all American public schools are terrible, because it's just not true. There are many, many thousands of students and families from around the world flocking to our shores to attend school in the US - yes, in our public schools as well. Many of these students are from some of the same countries against which the US is so unfavorably compared educationally.

Has anyone been trying to tell you that? If so, on what basis do they found their claim? I cannot imagine there is any sound basis they can present that establishes the verity of that claim.

All are not, but the system is totally infected with nonsensical politically Progressive behavior modification programs right down to the kindergarten level, displacing the more academic material, such as American history.

School is, fundamentally, what you make of it.

Just as many geniuses came out of California public schools than out of Phillips Exeter.

Dear @Unkatore the system used to work when teachers were allowed to teach.

As the govt focused more on meeting regulations on contracts and money, the focus became more political and politically correct.

Sorry but students are not learning their history and don't know how the Constitution and govt works. There is a huge gap from experienced technical and manual labor such as in production plants "aging out" by retirement without trained workers to take over these jobs much less to build and manage production facilities .

This standard of teaching dependence on govt may work for poor ppl who don't expect more and are happy to keep relying on govt, but it's disastrous if you expect to teach ppl to become fully independent and how to build and run schools businesses and services on a sustainable basis instead of relying on govt to provide everything and make all these decisions for other ppl.

That is simply not true. Most adults don't remember what they learned in school, but that doesn't mean it wasn't taught to them.

You, as someone who brings up language, should be able to figure it out. People in those countries you mention spend gobs of money to send their kids to a local school with a curriculum in English.

And they are not going to the US for a quality education, but rather to improve their English FFS! These people are not sending their kids to the inner-city hell holes either.

Sorry Unkotare but even here in Texas that is very conservative , the textbook committee planned to remove references to Thomas Jefferson and replace with more minority figures deemed to have contributed more. So how can you even teach American History and Govt while leaving out Jefferson who authored the Declaration of Independence.

The kids whose parents were dependent on govt either keep repeating this, or they need mentorship and examples of how much work it takes to support themselves on their own labor and budgets without factoring in govt assistance.

This takes a lot more than public education . Not only is this level of Independence not taught in schools, but it's getting harder and harder to teach it in society by example.

Sometimes there are practical reasons. Sometimes it's just human weakness.

Yes, they are. It's exactly why they come. I interact with such students and their families every day.

You remain clueless Unk. My son is in his final year of high school (gymnasium) where they vet students according to academic ability. Better students go to facilities with more advanced curricula in preparation for university while others go to what are essentially trade schools.

America has more of a mainstreaming idea putting dummies with their more advanced counterparts. There is no way in hell the US can offer a better education, at least for the more gifted students. Being that my son passed English Proficiency with an A (obviously because of me), there is no reason whatsoever I would consider sending my son to an American high school.
