Don't sit back and wait for the government to fix the economy!

Don't republicans and Romney say that dems and libs just sit around and wait for things to be given to them by the government? Why should improving their lives be any different? If I truly believed that crap, I'd turn down everything that had anything to do with the government. Any takers from the republican side? In many instance, individuals can improve their status in life (which is the republican mantra that I agree with). Try it!:D

Don't wait for the savior Mitt or even Obama (because neither can dramatically change things--although some of Obama's policies are helping a little).

Some ways YOU can try to help improve the economy:

One of the keys is how you spend your money to help local economies get healthier and stay in business. Consumer spending leads to more demand, which means more production, which means more jobs and investment, which means the government gets more tax revenue that can be turned back into the economy.

Although it is difficult avoid spending it on something that boosts a foreign economy. Buying clothes that are made in China, computers that are made there as well and foodstuffs that come from countries other than our own do not help the job picture locally other than for a few distributors and big retailers. Start shopping at your local mid-size owner operated retailer. But we won't and they go out of business on a regular basis.

We keep going to big box outlets who buy their stuff offshore an awful lot. So at least buy products that are made in your country. Read the labels. If you don't live in China, put the product that is made in China back on the shelf if you have an alternate product selection made domestically. So you need to buy cars that are built in your country by manufacturers that employ people locally. Those people will buy from local businesses and they will survive. Until everybody stops chasing the "bargain" and recognizes that most bargains end up destroying local economies nothing will change. Buying on credit is not the answer either. We all need to reduce our individual debt before we can't even afford the interest payments. So living within your means is already happening everywhere because few have growing incomes and secure jobs
.

More ideas:

Paying attention to local businesses and helping them by being loyal customers can help the economy. Just as one would help a friend or neighbor, pitching in and doing things for them if they were sick; using one's money where it counts, locally, can make a difference in the quality of one's own life.

In addition to spending when/where you can afford to spend, referring favorite businesses and business contacts to friends and neighbors can help those businesses and help stabilize your local, individual economy.

Now is the time to explore and be open to new things, to act unafraid. One has to get gas for one's car, go to multiple local stations, see how they are the same/differ. Do the same for grocery stores, restaurants and other kinds of stores where you have to spend your money anyway. Spread your money and good cheer, fear is contagious but so is pleasant, calm comfort.

Maybe start shopping or eating clubs, go out to dinner with friends instead of alone or meet neighbors at local haunts. Gathering together as people are meant to do can be easier in times of crisis and is actually that much more important. Join nonprofit clubs that are already going and give your time to helping your community. Time is money. Acting as if is just as important as actually having. And listen! To neighbors, store clerks, people working or out of work. Talk about what is important to you and listen to what is important to others in your community and see how problems can be working on together

1 Don't put all your faith in banks, credit, the government or the Federal Reserve. I know what you're thinking, what?? Well, these entities have fallen hard and many of their shortcomings were out in full display over the last two years. They may have worked the past couple of decades, but they are no longer institutions that you should put your full faith in. These entities aren't going to save us and you shouldn't expect them to. You need to have options in case another failure comes about and putting all your eggs in one basket will never give you options.

2 Don't focus too much on speculation. Sure, millions and billions have been made on pure speculation, but most of these people also had millions to fall back on in case things didn't work out. They also had access to the top experts in various fields to help them make their decisions. If you don't have that, keep your money safe and stored.

3 Instead of just looking for a job, focus on ways to create jobs as well. I'm sure you probably need money, who doesn't in today's economy? Yet, what America needs most of all right now are jobs. Find ways to be innovative and cost effective so that you can become an entrepreneur and create jobs to help our economy. Entrepreneurship is never easy and many fail, but if you succeed, the rewards will trump being an employee for any company.

All your recommendations amount to one thing: put your head on the chopping block and hope the axe doesn't fall.

I only have one thing to say in response: you first.

So, I take it you think individuals should just sit back and wait for the government/Mitt Romney to fix the economy? Isn't that the opposite of personal repsonsiblity and small government the republicans keep shouting about?

No, we should sit back and wait for government to get the fuck out of the way.
Government cannot create prosperity. But it can do lots of things to destroy it. As the Obama Administration proves daily.

Well, if your losing money daily from Oblama then maybe you should change the way you are doing things.
