I dont see how being equal and allowed to enter into a legal contract afforded to heterosexual couples is in anyway them trying to make the government recognize them as special.

No one has stopped them from entering into agreements and relationships. However, it's not marriage and if they want it, it exists without government recognition.

However, once you get the government involved, you have to accept the fact that you no longer control the dynamics of the relationship.

This issue isnt about gay marriage. It's about subversion of the family and our Republic.

Here's two simple facts

1. Allowing gay marraige does not mean straight marraige no longer exists
2. Allowing gay marraige will not suddenly remove heterosexuals nor will it remove the desire from some straights to start a family.

So I'd REALLY like to know how this is any sort of threat to the existence of the family (even if we were to limit the definition of family to straight married couple with children).

How does two homosexuals f-ing up their own lives and getting married for God knows what reason take away anyone's rights or victimize anyone? According to an article in Child Trends, "Research clearly demonstrates that family structure matters for children, and the family structure that helps the most is a family headed by two biological parents in a low-conflict marriage." While gay marriage would encourage adoption of children by homosexual couples, which may be preferable to foster care, some lesbian couples want to have children through anonymous sperm donations, which means some children will be created purposely without knowledge of one of their biological parents. Research has also shown that children raised by homosexuals were more dissatisfied with their own gender, suffer a greater rate of molestation within the family, and have homosexual experiences more often.

Gay marriage will also encourage teens who are unsure of their sexuality to embrace a lifestyle that suffers high rates of suicide, depression, HIV, drug abuse, STDs, and other pathogens. This is particularly alarming because, according to a 1991 scientific survey among 12-year-old boys, more than 25 percent feel uncertain about their sexual orientations. We have already seen that lesbianism is "chic" in certain elite social sectors.

If marriage and families are the foundation for a healthy society, introducing more uncertainty and instability in them will be bad for society.

I don't see why the only restriction left to marriage is what sex the person one marries happens to be. There used to be blood test requirements, counseling, etc.. All of that stuff is no longer necessary. People can marry their brother in a couple of states. Almost anyone can marry a first cousin (your aunt's kid)..

Why is it still so damned taboo, then, in our fubar, and already morally upside down society, that people simply want to share the same massive benefits that the brother and sister couples, the kissing cousins, the 16 year old and 17 year old still in high school married couple, and even illegal aliens all enjoy having???

Do these people no realize that marriage is no longer about marriage at all, anyways? It is about ensuring that the person you love, whose kids you care for, whose unfortunate nephew who was neglected gets his care from, is entitled to the benefiits that your same sex partner would need to maintain that standard of living and care when you have passed on. Gay couples don't get death benefits.. they don't get a discount on taxes, they face a fear that the state that the partner died in will not recognize the marriage as a contract, and end up giving the estate to some relative that didnt even like y'all.
