I can't understand this line of reasoning either.

If anything, the United States staying in Afghanistan in perpetuity, gives the Taliban crediblity as patriots fighting invaders.

Afghans may hate the Taliban..but the hate occupiers a heck of a lot more.

If memory serves I do believe Barry, shortly after taking office, made 2014 the date for us leaving Astan.
