Don't Forget: Republicans Created Income Taxes

Well...it is rather obvious that neither today's Ds or today's Rs have much in common with either of those parties of the past, right?

I mean comes on boys and girls, we all know this, right?

It hasn't stopped the Repugs and in particular the black ones from saying that the Repugs are the party for blacks because it was the Repug Party who freed the slaves, they actually use that shit to attract black voters, but forget shit like this above that they would never support.

Oh my GOD!

Why it is almost as though you were suggesting that politics leads people to make statements that aren't well thought out, reasoned or even truthful!

Considering how often he does just that, you think he'd be a pro at understanding it.

Republicans created what we call income taxes, deal with it shithead.
As was pointed out in this thread by TooTall, Democrat President Woodrow Wilson created what we call income taxes. Deal with it shithead.

I knew it was a Dem but I thought it was FDR.

Wilson was just as bad though.

Nope. He was far worse. The Nazi's learned alot about propaganda from his administration. Not to mention he was essentially the mentor to FDRs creations since FDR was in his administration.

Southern Democrats, the Dixiecrats created segregation, but getting back to the topic shithead, what aren't the Repugs of today like the Repugs of the 1850-60s? You rant about Democrats of the past but its ideology and agenda, not the fucking name of the party that matters.
So what was the point of your thread again?

Don't apply his standards to Republicans to Democrats. Because that just makes him look silly.

Seems to me that Flaylo is having trouble dealing with actual facts.
He can't deal with the facts that Dems have destroyed the black family unit with all the government handouts and goodies. It is Dems who has caused the ghettos and shitty housing units and gangs.

With the way he talks about women, i don't think he cares about family.

Republicans created a tax based on a percentage of your income. We can't call that an income tax, of course, because it would require us to be intellectually honest.

The income tax passed by the Republicans was a temporary tax passed to finance the civil war and less than 1% of the population paid it. Is that intellectually honest enough for you?

Yeah Dems are the blame for ever damn thing and Repugs? Innocent, blameless, their policies i the recent years have done nothing to destroy families. Bullshit.

Every thing? hardly. You're the only one making this an either/or fallacy.

One day, I seriously hope you come to understand that the world is much more complicated than your black/white mentality. I also hope that some day you soften your heart and open your mind. You will come to learn and see amazing things you cant begin to fathom at this point. And you might actually be happy for a change.

They allow name calling on this board? Too bad.

I enjoy more intellegent debate.

LOL intelligent debate , thats a good one ,
we have teabagers and republican along with democrats

Yes, because no one is intelligent, except you. Which just shows us how woeful this world is when someone who can't write proper sentences things he is the only really smart person.

Sinister59 is a dumb as a bag of rocks.

Since the Repug shitheads like branding their party as the party that freed slaves why not slap their with a little of their own medicine

Heather Cox Richardson: Don't Forget: Republicans Created Income Taxes

After the Southern Democrats seceded from the Union in 1861, Republicans dominated Congress. Immediately, they reinstated the old tariff duties Democrats had dropped, erecting tariff walls around the entire U.S. economy. But these tariffs could only stabilize the peacetime budget. The financial maw of the Civil War required an entirely new revenue system, and Republicans set out to create it.

Their guiding principle was to spread the burden of taxation evenly throughout society. They believed that the survival of the nation would benefit all Americans, so everyone should support the government to the best of their ability, "not upon each man an equal amount," a leading Republican explained, "but a tax proportionate to his ability to pay."

First, they placed taxes on all manufactured goods. Together with the tariffs, these taxes on consumer goods -- essentially sales taxes -- would fall disproportionately on working-class Americans.

To counteract this regressive tax, Republicans invented the national income tax. This was a wildly new idea in 1861, when most people tallied their income and expenses item to item, rather than thinking of their income as a yearly number. Congressmen shook their heads at the difficulty of figuring out how much money they made in 12 months. But levying a tax on income would guarantee that "the burdens will be more equalized on all classes of the community, more especially on those who are able to bear them," said a senator from a wealthy eastern state when he introduced the novel plan.

Congress adopted the income tax in 1861, placing a tax of 3 percent on incomes over $800. Then in 1862, it made the tax progressive, levying a tax of 3 percent for incomes over $600 a year and of 5 percent for incomes over $10,000. To collect the tax, the Republican Congress created an Internal Revenue Bureau in the Treasury Department.

this is more proof that the Repug shitheads of today are nothing like the Republicans of the 1850s and 1860s, the Repugs they like gloating about who freed the slaves.

whats wrong with income tax ? that pays for federal programs the military defence in general . infrastructure , property tax pays for school and state needs .

no free lunch , we have to pay soon or later for our convinces .

Flukyo, your sig: "Huffington Post, the number ONE source for truthful news." ....establishes you as the purveyor of LIEberrhoid BULLSHIT.

You might as well have labeled yourself as a "Media Matters", "Daily Kos".....or a "Move on .Org" stooge.

So..... you Obamarrhoidal SOROS shiteating peckerhead......your credibility is less than zero, nada, zippo..... it is PURE UNADULTERATED , UNMITIGATED TRASH !!!

Thats doesn't change the fact that Republicans still created the first income jackass. The law that TooTall mentioned was struck down later anyways, he didn't tell that part.

1) This thread has already established that the first known income tax was made by the Chinese.

2) This thread has also established that people aren't against the income tax per se. They are against the Progressive income tax which taxes people inequally.

With all things considered, this is 2011. We need to deal with today's problems.

And you libtards just love to use deflection tactics like the above so you can avoid having to admit the boner you get taking other people's money. Really what's your point? Is it that because the right created a tax you think they're now not allowed to talk about getting rid of some taxes? Are you that fucking juvenile?

He has to deflect. His spending position is indefensible. He knows it. So rather than rely on the truth, he has to employ every method of deception.

The income tax is the left's principle tool of class warfare, organized plunder and social engineering. Without it, they couldn't plunder anyone who works hard for a living for the benefit of the tics on the ass of society. They would also have a far more difficult time micromanaging our behavior.

It was found unconstitutional in 1895. The 16th amendment, passed in 1913 is the basis for today's income tax. Also passed under a Republican president.

Republicans just seem to love income taxes.

The first 'law' was a temporary duty and was not struck down.

The 1894 Wilson-Gorman Tariff Act was 'struck down' as I clearly stated in my previous post.

In the future I will attempt to post one short paragraph per post so you won't get confused.

The Internal Revenue Act of 1864, 13 Stat. 223 (June 30, 1864), increased the income tax rates established by the Internal Revenue Act of 1862. The measure was signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln

This act was allowed to expire as the populace mainly viewed it as an emergency measure for war-time situations. The Act ultimately expired in 1873 in the face of increased deficit spending. Congress readdressed reform of the tax law in 1893, eventually passing the Wilson-Gorman Tariff Act of 1894.

The most recent effort to tax incomes (Wilson-Gorman Tariff of 1894) had been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court because the tax on dividends, interest, and rents had been deemed to be a direct tax not apportioned by population.
