Republicans created what we call income taxes, deal with it shithead.
As was pointed out in this thread by TooTall, Democrat President Woodrow Wilson created what we call income taxes. Deal with it shithead.

Republicans created a tax based on a percentage of your income. We can't call that an income tax, of course, because it would require us to be intellectually honest.

And democrats created segregation and Jim Crow laws. Both were done in the past, and have no bearing whatsoever in the current political debate.

Southern Democrats, the Dixiecrats created segregation, but getting back to the topic shithead, what aren't the Repugs of today like the Repugs of the 1850-60s? You rant about Democrats of the past but its ideology and agenda, not the fucking name of the party that matters.

So what was the point of your thread again?

Its amazing how hypocritical scumbags such as youself either dont get what logical crime you are committing.

Lets do this slowly, I'm sorry I cant type in big crayon colored letter to help you read it better.

You accuse republicans of creating the income tax, something they are currently fighting to reduce, (with all taxation). You give this a some sort of example of them being therefore unable to critque the current tax situation. This is a classic strawman argument.

When confronted, however, with the same logical fallacy, that democrats created segregation and jim crow laws, you offer some lame excuse. Therfore you only use the logical fallacy when it benefits you.

BOTH statements have no merit, as past positions of politcal parties, especially since the people back then are all dead, have no bearing on current political debate.

Your argument aslo has elements of argument to the extreme, by stating that since republicans started the income tax, they therefore cannot have ANY position that argues for reducing or eliminating it.

I was using the democrats/segregation line as an example, but i guess your 5th grade educational level couldnt fathom it.

Go suck off a goat.

Seems to me that Flaylo is having trouble dealing with actual facts.
He can't deal with the facts that Dems have destroyed the black family unit with all the government handouts and goodies. It is Dems who has caused the ghettos and shitty housing units and gangs.

The Dixiecrats in the past couldn't have created Jim Crow laws on their own along with segregation, both parties and white society in those days on the whole did that.

During the 1870's-1880's in the south, during the "redeemer" period, Democrats at the time regained power in levels of the 80%-90% range. Republicans were mostly local unionists, carpetbaggers, and blacks. Once the freed slaves were disenfranchised, the local unionists shut up, the carpetbaggers left, and the blacks were cowed back into near slavery. Local politics were ALL democratic, basically the elections were settled in the democratic primaries.

They did it ALL on thier own, as the supermajority of the white population was all registered democrats, and were up until the 1970's.

Yeah Dems are the blame for ever damn thing and Repubs? Innocent, blameless, their policies i the recent years have done nothing to destroy families. Bullshit.

Repubs have plenty of things to blame also like spending to much as well as Dem's. Both have become out of control, both are to blame for bigger and bigger government.
It's progressive ideology that is ruining this country and progressives are in both political parties but progressives have taken over the Democratic party.
I'm saying that we the voters have to vote out progressives in both parties.

Since the Repug shitheads like branding their party as the party that freed slaves why not slap their with a little of their own medicine

Heather Cox Richardson: Don't Forget: Republicans Created Income Taxes

After the Southern Democrats seceded from the Union in 1861, Republicans dominated Congress. Immediately, they reinstated the old tariff duties Democrats had dropped, erecting tariff walls around the entire U.S. economy. But these tariffs could only stabilize the peacetime budget. The financial maw of the Civil War required an entirely new revenue system, and Republicans set out to create it.

Their guiding principle was to spread the burden of taxation evenly throughout society. They believed that the survival of the nation would benefit all Americans, so everyone should support the government to the best of their ability, "not upon each man an equal amount," a leading Republican explained, "but a tax proportionate to his ability to pay."

First, they placed taxes on all manufactured goods. Together with the tariffs, these taxes on consumer goods -- essentially sales taxes -- would fall disproportionately on working-class Americans.

To counteract this regressive tax, Republicans invented the national income tax. This was a wildly new idea in 1861, when most people tallied their income and expenses item to item, rather than thinking of their income as a yearly number. Congressmen shook their heads at the difficulty of figuring out how much money they made in 12 months. But levying a tax on income would guarantee that "the burdens will be more equalized on all classes of the community, more especially on those who are able to bear them," said a senator from a wealthy eastern state when he introduced the novel plan.

Congress adopted the income tax in 1861, placing a tax of 3 percent on incomes over $800. Then in 1862, it made the tax progressive, levying a tax of 3 percent for incomes over $600 a year and of 5 percent for incomes over $10,000. To collect the tax, the Republican Congress created an Internal Revenue Bureau in the Treasury Department.

this is more proof that the Repug shitheads of today are nothing like the Republicans of the 1850s and 1860s, the Repugs they like gloating about who freed the slaves.

Problem with your non thinking, old boy . . .

In 1913, the 16th Amendment to the Constitution made the income tax a permanent fixture in the U.S. tax system. The amendment gave Congress legal authority to tax income and resulted in a revenue law that taxed incomes of both individuals and corporations. In fiscal year 1918, annual internal revenue collections for the first time passed the billion-dollar mark, rising to $5.4 billion by 1920. With the advent of World War II, employment increased, as did tax collections—to $7.3 billion. The withholding tax on wages was introduced in 1943 and was instrumental in increasing the number of taxpayers to 60 million and tax collections to $43 billion by 1945.

Republicans weren't against an income tax. THEY WERE AGAINST WHOLESALE CONFISCATION as a matter of WEALTH DISTRIBUTION.

Notice the Republicans only had a 3% tax on people.

LOOK WHO INCREASED THAT TAX TO UNTENABLE LEVELS??????

That's right, THE DEMOCRATS!

So, why don't we just REDUCE THE INCOME TAX TO REPUBLICAN LEVELS, say at 3%?

You think your messiah Obama will go for that?

You are so stupid, even when you try to flame Republicans, it turns out to expose liberal socialism.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Republicans did a lot of economic stupid during the Civil war. Their platform (High taxes, huge direct government interference in the economy) should have guaranteed they would loose.

However, the main point of the election was that the one unified anti slavery party got 39% of the vote. The low tariff slavery party was cut into 4 pieces. And in a rational election year the party and platform which would have lost in a humiliating landslide came out on top because the pro slavery folks lost all their marbles.

And as for the income tax of 1862, you might recognize that government are reduced to extreme expedients in the middle of civil war. They do things that, in hindsight, were more than stupid and counterproductive, but seemed a very good idea at the time. Things like the Roosevelt administration taking an entire ethnic group and locking them up in de luxe concentration camps. Gila River was not Auschwitz. But the practice of removing and interning a minority group into camps is a war measure a great deal more embarrassing than a 3% income tax.

It hasn't stopped the Repugs and in particular the black ones from saying that the Repugs are the party for blacks because it was the Repug Party who freed the slaves, they actually use that shit to attract black voters, but forget shit like this above that they would never support.

and what does that say about anyone, black or white, who buys it?....

Shithead.
They allow name calling on this board? Too bad.

I enjoy more intellegent debate.

The more time you spend on the board, the more you will be able to tell who you can have intelligent debate with and people, like Flaylo, who it's unfortunately unable to do his incivility and absolute refusal to actually discuss things.

The Internal Revenue Act of 1864, 13 Stat. 223 (June 30, 1864), increased the income tax rates established by the Internal Revenue Act of 1862. The measure was signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln.

This act was allowed to expire as the populace mainly viewed it as an emergency measure for war-time situations. The Act ultimately expired in 1873 in the face of increased deficit spending. Congress readdressed reform of the tax law in 1893, eventually passing the Wilson-Gorman Tariff Act of 1894

And, now the rest of the story!

President Woodrow Wilson, Democrat summoned a special session of Congress in April 1913. His immediate objective was to confront the perennial tariff question, and he brought special attention to the matter by deciding to appear in person before Congress to make his appeal. He was the first president since John Adams to do so.

The joint session was a spectacular event. A huge crowd gathered and every seat in the House chamber was taken. Newspaper coverage was intense. Wilson spoke only briefly, but made it clear that tariff reform was needed, and that he would not be a party to a repeat of the embarrassment of the thwarted reform of 1894. The burden was clearly on Democratic shoulders because they controlled both houses of Congress for the first time in 18 years.

The Revenue Act of 1913 passed the House, 281 to 139, on May 8, 1913. Wilson used his patronage powers to guide it to Senate passage 44 to 37, on September 9, 1913. Politically it was considered a major triumph for President Woodrow Wilson.
The Act also provided for the reinstitution of a federal income tax as a means to compensate for anticipated lost revenue because of the reduction of tariff duties. The most recent effort to tax incomes (Wilson-Gorman Tariff of 1894) had been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court because the tax on dividends, interest, and rents had been deemed to be a direct tax not apportioned by population. That obstacle, however, was removed by ratification of the Sixteenth Amendment on February 3, 1913.

Which, of course, Flaylo wants us to completely ignore. Why put context to anything when you don't want people informed but misinformed?

There isnt a problem with the income tax. I don't have a problem with the income tax, except my aversion to all taxation. The problem is the Progressive Income tax. If everyone was taxed the same percentages, there were no loopholes. I'd have no problem with the taxation because all men and women would be treated equally. We would all have a hand in the budget. We would all have a say in government.

But when you have a majority of people not paying income tax whatsoever, demanding that we raise income taxes on those who do and thus shift the burden to specific groups of people rather than sharing it accross the board, I have serious problems with that. That's not equality before the law. That's one group of people mouching off the backs of other groups. It's modern day slavery without the physical chains.

We can't fix the problems with our society because not everyone in society has been taught they have a responsibility in it. We need to stop this representation without taxation bullcrap and make things equal for everyone.
