Don't Carry Condoms in D.C. -- You Could Be Charged With Prostitution | Women's Rights | Change.org

Think you might get lucky tonight? Well, if you're in D.C., don't bring more than two condoms in your purse, or you could be arrested as a prostitute.

In D.C., police can declare "Prostitution Free Zones" where officers can pick up (I mean, arrest) anyone suspected of sex work. And they've been accused of using carrying three or more condoms as proof of intent to sell sex -- rather than intent to spend the weekend getting jiggy with a guy.

But as RH Reality Check points out, the real danger of this law falls to people who actually are sex workers. It pushes them to abandon safe sex techniques, putting their own health at risk as well as that of the general population. Add to this the fear of arrest or harassment that keeps sex workers from seeking health care, and you have a recipe for disaster. Everybody should know by now that the nation's capital has a rampant problem with HIV/AIDS; this backwards law contributes to its spread (at three times the rate that characterizes a severe epidemic). It's not like you can expect the johns to bring their own rubbers.

Thoughts?

Legalize prostitution and divorce rates will plummet and police officers can free up time to arrest crooked politicians.

Under Obama care you will be taxed on condum as a medical device. means you get screwed more than once with one useage.

So how much of the people of DC's hard earned tax dollars are being waisted locking people up for having condoms? I live outside DC AIDS is RAMPENT in this area. Just what we all need another reason not to use condoms. God I've got to move out of here.

kind of funny since condoms are sold mostly in packs of three. Foolish now the johns and hookers will not use protection and sexual deseases will go up. people will still screw been doing it since the beginning of time, just like prostitution, women have been using sex to get taken care of since the beginning of time.

strange Pelosi wants all Americans to use em. birth control means lower tax's. stim the economy. would think her pocket book is full of em :eusa_whistle:

Who would on thought in the city of liberals?

How can the idiots that passed such a stupid law still be in office?

It doesn't sound like an actual law, but rather a criteria decided by the police force. I imagine at some point somebody will sue them and they'll have to stop, but it's ridiculous it should get to that point in the first place. Bear in mind that Washington D.C. is the perfect government model if your goal is to fail. The people that live there are getting exactly what they've asked for.

We don't even know from the O/P if the cops are doing things in this manner. You take it on faith from an opinion piece that doesn't say this is what the police are doing, but says, essentially, that there are RUMORS that this is how the police are doing things.

Take a big grain of salt with this one.
