"The Justice Department is investigating whether the nation’s largest credit ratings agency, Standard & Poor’s, improperly rated dozens of mortgage securities in the years leading up to the financial crisis, according to two people interviewed by the government and another briefed on such interviews."

The Justice department has major problems of it's own in the walked guns--aka fast and furious. Apparently--those thousands of weapons Americans were accused of delivering to Mexican drug lords came from the ATF.

At any rate instead of FIRING these 3 ATF agents--they have now been promoted. Can we say BIG COVERUP.

So I imagine this action is just a smoke screen--for Eric Holder--LOL

Did we need any further proof of what low lifes democrats are?

What's the best way to draw the full wrath and power of Obama's DOJ?

A. Kill an American border guard

B. Downgrade Obama

Report: Government probe of Standard and Poor's - Yahoo! Finance

^According to this article, the investigation started BEFORE the United States was downgraded. Not to say such doesn't look bad, but if anything, the presence of an investigation if meant to intimidate would have caused S&P to keep the US rating at AAA. The very fact that they continued to downgrade the United States even after the investigation indicates this is actually a legit probe (just read the article, S&P was basically getting PAID gobs of money to rate companies, creating conflicts of interest) at least on the surface.

Before you jump to the conclusion that the current US Government is sliding towards authoritarianism and political intimidation, please provide solid, tangible evidence plz.

Except the problems with the ratings companies: S & P, Moody's, and Fitch were well documented by Morgenson in both NYT articles and her book, "Reckless Endangerment" well before this started.

Fast and Furious needs either a Congressional investigation or a special prosecutor. I'm a little reluctant on a special prosecutor, because they have such an awful track record, tho'.

But it's obvious that Holder can't investigate himself on this one.

As for the Standard and Poors investigation, this SHOULD have happened years ago. There should have been major investigations of everyone involved in the meltdown, but Obama was too busy milking these guys for contributions.

I'll take them at their word that the S&P investigation started before they downgraded Obama's economy, but man, it's bad timing, ain't it? Now it looks like retribution.

And the news never lies right? Especially when in the pocket of the current administration.
It could have been started BEFORE as you emphasize and maybe just maybe that is why they downgraded the US .... Its called a pissing match
