Loyal Dog, Capitán, Sits By Owner's Grave For Six Years

One loyal dog hasn't moved from his master's side for the last six years -- refusing to let even death part them.

German shepherd, Capitán, ran away from home after his owner and best friend, Manuel Guzman, died in 2006. A week later Guzman's family, who live in Cordoba, Argentina, found the heartbroken dog grieving at the gravesite, reported Dog Heirs.

"We had never taken him to the cemetery so it is a mystery how he managed to find the place," Veronica Guzman, Manuel's widow, told the Sun.

Every Sunday, for the past six years, the Guzman family has gone to the cemetery to visit both Manuel and Capitán. Although the dog often leaves the cemetery to spend a short period of time with his family, he always returns to the gravesite before dark.

"I don't think he wanted to leave Manuel on his own at night," Veronica told the Sun.

Cemetery director, Hector Baccega, said that staff at the cemetery in central Argentina are now feeding and taking care of the dog.

“During the day he sometimes has a walk around the cemetery, but always rushes back to the grave. And every day, at six o’clock sharp, he lies down on top of the grave and stays there all night,” Baccega told La Voz.

Although the Guzman family would like to take Capitán home with them, they understand the dog's immense loyalty to his best friend.

Professor Hidesaburō Ueno lived in Tokyo with his beloved Akita named Hachiko. Everyday Hachiko would see Ueno off to work from his home and then, at the end of the day, greet him at the nearby Shibuya Train Station.

One day in May 1925 would be the end of their daily routine together, for Ueno suffered a fatal stroke during his day at work. He never returned to his faithful friend that day nor any day thereafter.

Hachiko was given away to new owners but the loyal dog always ran off in search of his true master. After returning to Ueno's former home several times, Hachiko realized that he did not live there anymore. Hachiko then searched for his friend at the train station. There he perpetually returned everyday henceforth, always at the end of the day and at the precise time of Ueno's scheduled arrival. Hachiko waited there in vain every day for 11 years.

My cats would quickly switch loyalty to whoever opened a can for them. And hopefully they would have found my body before the cats started eating it.

However, not all cats are like that. Knew one elderly lady, had a devoted and loving cat. The woman died, and the poor cat basically had a psychotic break. That cat blamed the rest of humanity for taking away her one beloved human, and swore a crusade of bloody vengeance. Not just a swipe-the-ankle-and-run thing, which we could have put up with. She was out to bite, rend and kill every damn human out there. We had to put her down. We put her ashes in with her human's.

Never realized though that when she was about 14, Skippy was spending much more time with her mom, who was ill. When my grandma died when my mom was 18, the dog howled. She died at home.
