Fortunately this idiotic exercise in socialism is not happening here but in France.
France to Boost Minimum Wage - WSJ.com

The idea is they will increase the min wage, increasing people's earning power and growing the economy with consumer spending.
I thought France was the country of Voltaire and Rousseau, not the country of the Chance the Gardener. Who imagines this crap is going to work?
ANd when (not if) it fails, the cry will be they didnt raise min wage high enough.

Look at the most prosperous region in the world, Scandinavia. In sweden virtually every job is union and makes around $18 an hour on average.

Then you can look at right wing utopias like Iran and Saudi arabia where people make pennies an hour, if you can even find a job.

Yeah - let's look at Scandanavia, you uneducated fucking twit.

Last time I was in Oslo, I paid $12 for a fucking Big Mac. We were skipping meals becuase it was so Goddamned expensive (taxes)

It's the most expensive city in the world.

Minimum-Wage Increase Fails

"Republicans argued that an increase in the minimum wage would discourage employers from hiring workers and would hinder people in the early stages of their careers from gaining skills and advancing. "

THEN:

Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts said Thursday that increasing the federal minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 would be his top priority as chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.

On the House side, incoming Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., already has listed an increase in the minimum wage as one of the issues that would be taken up during the first 100 hours of the next Congress."

Pelosi - in her first officlal act, took the young person's minimum wage an amazing 40%.

She destroyed the opening wage scale at exactly the wrong time.

THEN:

"The unemployment rate for young Americans has exploded to 52.2 percent -- a post-World War II high, according to the Labor Dept. -- meaning millions of Americans are staring at the likelihood that their lifetime earning potential will be diminished and, combined with the predicted slow economic recovery, their transition into productive members of society could be put on hold for an extended period of time.

And worse, without a clear economic recovery plan aimed at creating entry-level jobs, the odds of many of these young adults -- aged 16 to 24, excluding students -- getting a job and moving out of their parents' houses are long. Young workers have been among the hardest hit during the current recession -- in which a total of 9.5 million jobs have been lost. "

In Sweden there is no general minimum wage. It depends on the job. There is a minimum wage for engineers and a different minimum wage for garbage collectors. There's no national minimum wage.

A minimum wage doesn't really help anyone. Instantly people making minimum wage think that they will be better able to provide for themselves because they are making more money. That doesn't last because as the minimum wage rises, so do prices. The minimum wage worker soon find themselves in exactly the same position he was in before he ever got a raise.
