Does Politics Affect Your Friendships?

The fact is the Bush administration did spend way too much and that's why the Republicans were voted out of office in 2006. For the next two years, with Democrats in control of Congress, and despite numerous Presidential vetoes, spending accelerated until the housing bubble burst causing the economic crash. The first two years of the Obama administration, with a Democratic congress, absolutely NOTHING was done to curb the excesses of the Bush Administration and in fact, they substantially increased them creating the nation's first trillion dollar deficits and have made absolutely no effort to roll back any of that spending so we have continued with trillion dollar plus deficits every year and they are projected to continue and even increase far far into our future. And because entitlements have also been increased so substantially under Obama, he has bult a reliable voting block who want those entitlements to continue forever.

And absolutely NONE of that has anything to do with the OP. It was interesting, however, that some of our more leftists folks here though thought it necessary to blame Bush and/or conservatives immediately and also personally insulted people rather than focus on the tone and theme of the OP.

I still think there must be something in the water they drink that automatically triggers that phenomenon and makes liberals unable to discuss any topic without casting aspersions on the other person and/or their ideology or without blaming somebody. And in my opinionTHAT phenomenon destroys friendships both in real life and on message boards.

I don't have friends that are liberal. I have some ex friends that are liberal but I have nothing whatever to do with them. Except there is one, who now denies she ever was a liberal.

Doesn't surprise me.

Two of my really good friends are republican, glad I am not as partisan you, otherwise I would miss out on having such great friends.

You do realize that the democrat=liberal/republican=conservative is a false dichotomy, don't you?

My best friend at work is a liberal atheist. We don't talk a lot about religion or politics, but our discussions have always been civil. There are so many other topics that we enjoy discussing, and we have fun hanging out and going to movies, plays and dinner. I love her, and even though I think she was a little disappointed that I voted for "the evil Bain guy", she can't help but still love me.:D

I thoroughly enjoy my Democratic/liberal friends. But we don't discuss politics except in the most generic ways.

My friend spencer and I get in heated discussions, but it's fun. We don't get mad at each other, just discuss.

I'm about as anti Obama as you will find but I have liberal friends who I argue with but would NEVER drop our friendship over political views. However some have dissed me.

What about you? Have you been dissed or would you end a friendship over politics?

I never have ended any relationship over politics, but some have with me.

Funny that.

Not really... people who know me know I have strong political opinions. A lot were shocked when I went from being a pretty right of center REpublican to a more left of center moderate a few years ago were surprised... but they also saw what was going on in my life to change that.

One would think that the conservatives would have figured out that the economy is the new "halo" effect topic. The plurality of voters...if not the majority....do not just vote on economic issues.

If people really cared...a new political party would have risen 20+ years ago.

Politics has been separating people for years. It isn't new and didn't start with obama. In 2004, the basis for divisions and the separation of the people was the subject of a book called The Big Sort.

Home

We've built a country where we can all choose the neighborhood and church and news show — most compatible with our lifestyle and beliefs. And we are living with the consequences of this way-of-life segregation. Our country has become so polarized, so ideologically inbred, that people don't know and can't understand those who live just a few miles away.

I don't want to know democrats, I don't want to understand them, help them or even have to say hello to them.

Interesting.........................in your second paragraph you decry the division that we've put ourselves into with the "way of life segregation", yet in your last paragraph you say that you're an ardent supporter of the same segregation.

Must suck to be scared to have friends who may disagree with you.

I DID drop a good, but liberal, friend for two years. My heart ached for her though, and we have made up, however I have no respect for liberals, thus any and all friendships with them, are no longer valued as deeply as before they cast a vote for socialism.

I AM happy to report that the best friend I dropped for two years, regretted voting for o, in `08, and now considers herself an independent. ( a step up )

nice Ass AA......:eusa_angel:
