It's been about a month since Tropical Storm Hermine tore through North Texas. One of the hardest hit areas was a condominium complex in Arlington. The floodwater was so high, dozens of residents had to be rescued.

Because of this, Gov. Rick Perry asked the federal government to issue a disaster declaration for 13 Texas counties, including Tarrant and Denton. On Sunday, Perry learned that the request was denied.

I'd be curious to see how many disaster declarations have been denied. I've never heard of one until today.

Texas is a proud state and a firm believer in the 10th Amendment. They know that the Constitution says nothing about providing emergency relief to a state so the responsibility falls to the individual state.

Given Rick Perrys secessionist views, I would not want to insult the man by offering him money

I agree. Taking it a step further, I think Texas residents shouldn't have to pay Federal Taxes either.

Being as they get more back then they put in..I agree.

Texas realizes how worthless the Federal Gubmint is and that they do nothing to help the states. For the US Government to send money to help individuals in Texas would amount to SOCIALISM

Texas should set an example for the rest of the states and deny federal aide and take care of their own problems.

And ask for their Federal taxes back.

The real question is, why is a traitorous anti-constitution secessionist asking for federal money?

Because some of it is taken from the people of Texas.

It's time we get a little real about whose money is government money.

FEMA crunches numbers and looks at the ratio of uninsured losses compared to local, county and states ability to to respond. Williamson County has numerous home owners who got screwed while those who were flooded by the Rio Grande this summer were compensated. Why? Because they were poor.

This will work. As long as you asswipe hypocrites don't take tax money from them. Texas has the only boooming economy around. So it's your call.

Texas will deny federal aid as soon as the feds stop taking our money in the first place. Until then we will ask for our money back like all the other states. We're not stupid.

Does Obama hate Texas as much as AZ?

He doesn't hate either.

On the other hand:

Do Texans hate Hispanics as much as Republicans hate the gays?

Texas is a welfare state in that it receives more federal money than it pays in taxes.

They are a firm believer in states rights and the 10th amendment. As such, they would be offended at the offer of federal money for what is clearly a state responsibility.

Governor Says Texans May Want to Secede From Union But Probably Won't - FoxNews.com

Texas Gov. Rick Perry fired up an anti-tax "tea party" Wednesday with his stance against the federal government and for states' rights as some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, "Secede!"

An animated Perry told the crowd at Austin City Hall -- one of three tea parties he was attending across the state -- that officials in Washington have abandoned the country's founding principles of limited government. He said the federal government is strangling Americans with taxation, spending and debt.

Perry repeated his running theme that Texas' economy is in relatively good shape compared with other states and with the "federal budget mess."

Clearly, a State as well off as Texas doesn't need the nasty Feds adding to spending and debt by providing flood relief.

A "Limited Government" should not provide money to states for flood relief. There is nothing in the Constitution about providing federal money for flooding. Any Tea Party member will tell you that

Then let them stop paying and receiving. You won't have a problem with that would you? You'd save you some money.

I'd love to see Texas secede from the union.
