Does Integration Mean Better Education?

I've always wondered. What about sitting next to a person of a different race makes for a better education? Isn't it "racist" to suggest that blacks can't learn unless they're sitting next to whites?

Your ignorance is appalling. You have no proof of the claim.

Further integration was required because the separate but equal policy was a farce. EVERYONE in this country is entitled to the same rights. That currently means FREE education through High school. ( ok not really free but close enough)

When a system is established to PREVENT one race or several races from receiving their rights and called equal then it is the Governments RESPONSIBILITY to step in, as was done.

I am tired of your racist shit. You may be more polished at it then some of the other racist on this board but that IS what you are.

I have never been able to understand the need to denegrate and hate simply because of the color of ones skin. Your intelligence should be able to get past the ignorant crap you spew.
Son Black kids should stay in their ghetto schools which are run largely by DemoKKKrats who chronically underfund and fail to support them??? OK: what are the REAL reasons Black kids to better away from ghetto schools?

Despite decades of school reform, too many racially and economically isolated schools fail to serve students well. Schools that primarily serve low-income students of color often have poor curricular offerings, few extracurricular and enrichment activities, and too many inexperienced teachers. Unsurprisingly, the prevalence of isolated, segregated, low-performing public schools is the most powerful driver of the persistent educational opportunity gap. This is by no means the fault of the students or staff who attend and work in these schools, respectively; there are many examples of individual schools effectively serving predominantly low-income students and students of color. Yet many states’ school finance systems have historically failed to direct adequate resources to schools that primarily serve poor nonwhite students. In order to give millions of low-income students of color the educational resources and opportunities they need and deserve, it is necessary to develop integrated schools that embody a unified and shared outlook for all students.

Contrary to popular opinion, schools are not most segregated in the South but rather in large metropolitan areas in the Northeast and in the West—in places with hundreds of school districts that align with municipal boundaries and that reinforce segregated housing patterns. To successfully enroll large numbers of students in racially and socioeconomically integrated schools, policymakers must look beyond current school boundaries and work to consolidate school districts.

Because of the legacy and persistence of housing segregation, in many densely populated areas, it is simply impossible to integrate schools within current district boundaries. For instance, Fairfield County, Connecticut, encompasses 24 separate school districts, including Westport, Easton, and Bridgeport. Overall, the county is diverse; however, unnecessary district boundaries make it impossible to integrate schools in the community. Fairfield County is roughly three-fourths white, 10 percent black and 17 percent Latino. Yet in 2017, 83 percent of the students enrolled in Westport schools are white. In nearby Easton, again, nearly 85 percent of the district’s students are white. Conversely, less than 1 percent of the students in Easton’s school system are black, and just roughly 12 percent are not white. Meanwhile, in the city Bridgeport—a short drive south of Easton—85 percent of the students are nonwhite.

So gimme your answer, please.

ya know what....if you racist whites had been smart, you would have spent the cash to make sure that separate but equal really WAS equal.... I bet Brown v.. Board of Education might not ever have been taken to court if Little Rock had actually provided top notch schools for blacks.

you pissed in your whiskey a long time ago.... now all you can do is whine...

and drink up!

Brown was against the Board of Education of Topeka, KS. What does Little Rock have to do with it?

The Brown case stood for the proposition that you had a right to go to your neighborhood schools. Little Miss Brown had been bused to a school in a "colored" neighborhood because she was Black. Later, it was perverted to You MUST go to a school in a different neighborhood on order to achieve "racial integration." Tangentially speaking, our current VP - both of whose parents have PhD's - got a much better education because she was bused to a "white" neighborhood, and now she is SO HAPPY to have had the experience of going to school with "white" kids. So happy, in fact that she is married to a white man, claims his two kids as her own, grooms herself as a white woman, and only talks with a Black patois when it is convenient to do so.

Seriously, however, the "achievement gap" will never be eliminated because of cultural and genetic factors which give no sign of changing in any living person's lifetime. The BEST that Black kids and parents can hope for is segregation of Black students in failing schools on a MERIT basis, thus separating the intelligent, talented, and motivated kids into dedicated classes where they can meet their potential. Keeping them in the same classes with the Black masses subjects them to an inferior environment and an inferior education, just because of the color of their skin. This separation by merit has worked at Black schools all over the country, but Leftists and poverty pimps rail against it, on the basis that it "gives up on" every other Black kid.

Sorry.

It has nothing to do with the classroom seating but historical integration has had a big impact on the quality of the school, books, and teachers. Today, not so much as in past.

Whoa!

What a hot potato.

We all know what that man from Delaware said about busing for integrated schools. (No need to repeat it here.)

No, IMHO, it is NOT "racist" to say that the folks under consideration need to sit next to Caucasians, but it IS patronizing and insulting.

Back in the days when there were predominately non-Caucasian Catholic schools, those students did very well because (I hear) they wanted to learn, they behaved themselves, their parents supported the schools, and the nuns brooked no nonsense and taught them what they needed to know.

I see nothing wrong with defacto integration, or defacto segregation. People should go to the neighborhood school whatever the racial makeup of it is. All schools in a district should have equal funding per student.

So your "president", Joe Biden, had the wrong idea when he opposed school integration? He was trying to protect his kids from a "racial jungle" after all, right?

Biden was not opposed to school integration. He was opposed to a school busing order by the Dept. of Education in the 1970's. School busing was not popular with either blacks or whites. Typically it meant addition hours on busses and waiting for connecting busses. Kids often had to leave for school an hour earlier and got home an hour later. They were often separated from friends. It was really hard on kids that were active in school sports and other school activities. Although people didn't like it, it was very successful in one respect. School segregation dropped substantially. But those efforts also sparked bitter, sometimes racist, resistance that shaped political discourse for decades.

Integration has caused problems but there have been some really positive results. Young people today are far more color blind when it comes to race. They certainly recognize racial difference but it's just not a big deal the way it was in the days of segregation.

Will your grand children look like you or your ancestors , will you be represented , why should that not matter ?

The objectives for school desegregation were to establish the commonplace acceptance of individuals of different races within communities , whenever it came to occur , rather than maintaining forced segregation .

Associating with other individuals whose competence of interests aspire towards technical expertise exposes one to areas of thought and skill sets that they may not have otherwise considered or sought to pursue on their own .

That white societies are more likely to be familiar with technically challenging areas of interest may be a motivator by those seeking to use busing as a means to raise standards of communities with less exposure to , or lower acumen for , advanced or competent skills .

Alternatively , allowing the interests of sub capacity abilities or faulty ambitions could lead one down a path of dereliction , or complacency , or incompetence , where those with the least capacity for improvement seek to influence the hierarchy of social direction where education excellence or ambitious attitudes as a priority is diminished .

Culture-only hypotheses have not explained the mean Black–White group differences in IQ. (They have especially not explained the findings on East Asians.) One early view was that the mean Black–White group difference in IQ was due to the then obvious differences in (segregated) school facilities (Myrdal, 1944). However, despite the U.S. Supreme Court Brown v. Board of Education (1954) decision striking down segregated schooling, and the consequent nation-wide program of school busing, the mean Black–White group difference has not decreased. Moreover, the Coleman Report (Coleman et al., 1966) found that the racial composition of schools per se was not related to achievement in either Blacks or Whites. Most of the variation in IQ scores occurred within schools and less than 20% occurred between schools. Negligible, and in some cases, negative correlations were found between IQ and variables such as pupil expenditure, teachers’ salaries, teachers’ qualifications, student/teacher ratios, and the availability of other school professionals (see also Coleman, 1990 –1991).

The most frequently stated culture-only hypothesis is that the mean IQ differences are due to SES. In fact, controlling for SES only reduces the mean
Black–White group difference in IQ by about a third, around 5 IQ points. The genetic perspective does not regard this control for SES as being entirely environmental. It holds that the parents’ socioeconomic level in part reflects their genetic differences in intelligence. Moreover, according to the culture-only theory, as Black groups advance up the socioeconomic ladder, their children should be less exposed to environmental deficits and therefore should do better and, by extension, close the distance separating the Black mean with the White. In fact, the magnitude of the mean Black–White group difference in IQ for higher SES levels, when measured in standard deviations, is larger (Herrnstein & Murray, 1994, pp. 286 –289).
