The Democrats main platform is fear mongering and scare tactics. They can't run on their records so what do they do? They Beat up on Bush and warn the folks about how bad it would be if the Republicans regain power. Every four years that claim that the Republicans are going to gut the social security system. Everything is a crisis with the Democrats, they said if we didn't pass the stimulus the country would be in "dire straits".

The example on 'global warming' (Climate Change) is absurd; fear mongering it is not. Whether climate change is caused by human activity maybe debatable, but acid rain, smog, mercury in our sea food and a hundred other examples of human influence on the earth's environment are indistputable.

Tu quo que is an acceptable arguement in this case. The discussion is of a political tactic, not a political position. And I disagree that the climate change debate is not fear mongering. Propoents bring up increased hurricanes, death of crops, more heat waves, cities swamped by rising sea levels.

The other topics you use are not related to the "climate change" debate. those are measurable, non global scale phenomenon that are much easier to quantify and to place blame on. Those are much more observable based on the principle of "if you do X, Y happens"

So are you trying to argue that presenting the facts that support global warming is fear mongering as you try to make excuses for the right's fear mongering as they use rhetoric and baseless accusations of advancing toward socialism (the new redscare) and refer to the dem leadership as "the evil empire"?? Yet most of the factors which cause "non global scale phenomenon" are in place around the world. Whether such factors in the aggregate impact the worlds climate is worthy of debate, the pollution cased by burning fossil fuels is not.
It matters not the cause of climate change: a natural phenomena, caused by man, or a combination of factors. If we are to thrive as a species we must adapt, for even small changes can bring about massive problems in terms of enough clean water, clean air and food production.

While I agree that eventually getting off fossil fuels is probably needed I have issues with the method. I also find the obsession with wind/solar to be perplexing, as these are the two technologies least likely to free us from fossil fuels. The trainsient nature of both would require massive storage to cover non windy/sunny periods, as well as to create a baseline generation to prevent rolling blackouts and brownouts. If global warming is such a dire cause why isn't fission being embraced as a stop gap to wean us off coal for electricity generation until they can finally get fusion to work? I know the waste issue, but at least it is concentrated, unlike fossil fuel waste which is spread into the atmosphere and disperesed.
