Do you support your state lottery?

No.

I used to work at a convenience store when I was in HS and i saw people with no business buying lottery tickets wasting hundreds of dollars a month on the numbers and scratchers when their kids didn't have clean clothes that fit them properly.

State governments should be ashamed of taking advantage of people with their rigged games

State governments are not in the nanny business. No one is forcing anyone to buy a lottery ticket.
Why should the government cater and protect the lowest common denominator?

Funny I didn't think the government was supposed to take advantage of the people by sponsoring rigged games.
Who is forcing them to play? Remember a fool and his money are soon separated.
Now Define "Rigged"
All gambling is rigged.

The house always wins.

Unfortunately you fail to realize you are most likely supporting the poor who play the lottery with your tax dollars.

But hey that's OK right?

Since you believe that "All gambling is rigged" and there is a chance that a poor person might play, the logical assumption is that you would want all casinos and state lotteries shut down immediately? No matter how that affects those that can afford to play. It appears that you do not believe in "personal responsibility"

It's one thing for a private party to run a gambling house and quite another for an elected government to do it. Don't you think?

Not really, If people did not like it the politicians that were for it would be voted out. It is basically a voluntary tax, don;t like it don't play.
But there is no reason to punish the people that can afford it for the sake of those that cannot afford it.

Punish?

Really?

If you think not being able to buy a scratch ticket is punishment then you have never been punished.

Why should anyone have to give up something for the benefit of the lowest common denominator?
Poor people buy liquor and cigarettes too, want to ban those too?
Just how far are you willing to go in banning stuff to save the poor from themselves?

The Massachusetts lottery has a subscription service open to all. You don't have to be resident in the state.

In Massachusetts, the lottery revenue raised is divided between local governments.

Term life insurance is the perfect wager.

You bet the company that you will die, and they bet that you will survive (for the term of the policy).

Either way, you win! If you die, you (your bennie) get the payout, and if you lose the bet, you have lived another year!

It's the only lottery I play. I've never lost and never collected. Until now.

Well, in this case, the house is the State, which means the people win.

We all benefit from the revenue raised, even if we don't play.

If states didn't operate lotteries, illegal lotteries would take their place. Let's have it legal and the revenue raised used for the public good.

By and large lotteries are a positive for states. Yes, some may spend too much on lotteries, but is the case with everything, alcohol, tobacco or junk food.

If we don't have legal lotteries, illegal lotteries will fill the void. The revenue from illegal lotteries, like bootlegging, will not benefit the residents of the states, only organized crime.

Illegal lotteries were called The Numbers racket and were along for hundreds of years. It's what put a lot of $$$$ in the pickets of gangsters.

I have just renewed my subscription to the Massachusetts lottery, subscribers don't have to reside in the state. The Mass. lottery is open to all across the US.

State Lotteries raise billions in revenue which benefit all residents, Whether they play or not. Do you agree with this form of revenue raising?

How much money do lotteries raise?
Since the New Hampshire lottery was founded in 1964, lotteries have raised more than $200 billion for government programs in North America. In fiscal year 2012 Canadian lotteries transferred $2 billion ($CAN) to their beneficiaries, while U.S. lotteries turned over $19 billion ($US) to theirs.

Yeah I do. I never believed the lies that were told by the politicians that wanted it though. They said that the money would go to education, that the lottery would bring in millions and millions to the state for education. What they didn't say, and what I knew, was that the politicians would take money away from education and replace it with the lottery money and in the end we still wouldn't have enough money for the schools.
