Do You Know The 4th Verse Of The "Star Spangled Banner"?

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause. it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

The $64 questions for Americans is:

Whose God?

Let's use mine! I don't LIKE yours and His stupid rules on sex! I don't like Achmeds for the same reasons! Let's use mine!

I know this is a tough question, but..........................wouldn't it make sense to let the song writer of the Star Spangled Banner be the one who determines what God he's written the words for? :cuckoo:

No it does not make sense because the line is "in God is OUR trust." I am sorry but I am not going to let a song writer influence my choice of deity.

As DeadDude said, absolutely NOT, given the political context in which the song has been thrust - the song has been adopted as our National Anthem and its position in American Life is as our collective representative.

Would the song possibly qualify as our National Anthem if the line read "In Jesus is our trust."? How about "In Allah is our trust."?

The only way for that verse to qualify, given the American fabric woven from tolerance (at least on paper) is to keep 'God' very generic. The thesis of my post was to point out the fallacy and danger of one group or another removing theistic generality from anything that is used politically in this country. They DO NOT have that right.

(Insert your preferred Deity here) BLESS the United States of America!

That guy has a hell of a set of pipes on him for an aging lawyer.

Star Spangled Banner is a damned hard song to sing.

American history and culture has GOD written all over it, of course.

But know that they didn't mean YOUR god, folks.

They were talking about MY god, and naturallythat means ONLY my god.

So I would appreciate it if you people praying to your false idols and ersatz dieties would please leave MY COUNTRY immediately.

Thank you in advance for respecting me and MY GOD's wishes.
