A good friend of mine is the music teacher at a Catholic grade school. He taught his kids these lyrics too. That last line about the Myrtle of Venus and Bacchus's vine raised some eyebrows with a few parents!

I did know the whole thing in grade school, but have since forgotten it.



I did have a teacher in high school who tried to tell us it was written during the Civil War, she was a little short with me after I corrected her.
