Do you Favor Increasing the Topical Content of Threads? (Read OP 1st)

Would You Support a Requirement for MORE Topical Content in Every Post ?

  • Yes -- Sign Me Up --- I Hate Trolls

  • No Way -- It Would Stunt My Trolling Style

  • I Plead the 5th -- Not gonna get me to incriminate myself

  • It's Fine the Way It Is.

Trolling is often hard to define because it can be in the eye of the beholder. For us mods determining content level is often easier.

I get the sense that sone folks want safe space, for want of a better term, to discuss things with like minded folks without the usual sideshows.

I have seen other places that have seperate sections for conservative, lib, indie only members. Maybe that is a possible solution.

is

Or increasing the number of people a person can include in a PM..... Like puchasing a Gold Membership.

You know that is one of my all time fave songs?

Keep this conversation on the topic of the poll. It's NOT a gripefest about moderation or your opposing political team. The reason for this poll is to get membership feedback on a possible means to reduce the troll population. Let's be frank. BOTH sides are bitching about out of control trolls. That's a fact. Frustration levels are high.. That's NOT a USMB Moderation fault. It's the way the 2 tribes have polarized this country that is the problem.

All Zone2 and 3 rules are focused on TOPIC CONTROL. If you respect the topic -----

1) You'll hardly ever hear from moderation.
2) You're not trolling.

So if you want to REDUCE the troll population, folks need to up their up their "topical discussion" game. Currently, too many only use token references to the specific topic before they haul off and WHACK someone personally or go off onto a thread diverting rant. We could easily just change the requirement to be MOSTLY topical discussion.. That would spell doom for all trolls right there.

THINK before you vote. Every one would be focusing more on topical discussion, much less on trolling or personal flaming. So YOU are making a PERSONAL commitment with your vote.

This is NOT been discussed as a Staff Issue. There are NO PLANS to change the way we judge posts and content. So it's my neck hanging out asking the question...
We already have a forum where trolling is prohibited.

Moderation of a site offering such freedoms as we have here is a tough job. Some do well at it. Some do not. I'm not naming any particular moderator, but one in particular will have to wait 'til hell freezes over to get a compliment from me.

I say leave the board rules as they are and couple that with uniform enforcement by unbiased (politically) moderation. Thread ban anyone that violates the rules even once. Forum ban anyone that violates the rules twice in the same forum. Site ban for a month anyone that violates the rules three times anywhere. Permanently ban anyone that violates the rules four times (including violations that may have led to previous bans).

Provide a new forum called INVITATION ONLY FORUMS. Let founders of such forums approve of a single moderator for their forum. Let anyone read in all the forums. Let only members post in their forums. Restrict membership to one forum only.

Provide a new forum called OPEN GROUP FORUMS. Let anyone join any group therein. Assign moderators as in all other (except Invite Only) forums.

All will be well in Hooterville.

The highlighted statement is a non-starter. All mods moderate all parts of the board.

You don't get to pick your favorite.

Mods could try to move troll threads into more appropriate places instead of encouraging the thread starting trolls starting threads in zone #2 and then removing posts calling out the thread starting troll. That would be a good start. Baby steps.
We do...but...what you consider a troll thread might not be what we do. Best thing is to report it. I guarantee we will give it our attention. We may not end up agreeing but we will look.

I would say there are significant differences in moderation styles - and as for your second question, it was prior administrators and the owners of this site who made us the bosses.

This is a non-starter. It's not going to happen. We work as a team, consult each other, and make decisions as a team - on all issues. That's not going to change.

The thing is...when comes to threads in stuff like structured debate...or a proposed invite only section...we mods don’t much mod it. We are only looking out for violations of major site wide rules...porn, pedo, family, data mining. Otherwise we don’t do anything unless someone complains. It isn’t partisan.

No --- if you did that --- it might be construed as disrespecting the topic and starting a thread diversion. How did you find out that Limbaugh has 3 accounts here? Don't answer that.... :th_waiting:

I run 2 of them.

In one of them I pretend to be a moonbat.

Guess which one?

Exactly.

I think things are fine the way they are. I don't understand why you took down the social groups though. Is there no way you can make it so you can have access to moderate those parts of the forum, or is it just that you didn't feel like doing it? :D

I still report myself..

Some people are socially retarded and don't know how to interact properly with other people, and of course there are going to be many more such people frequenting sites such as this one. People who can't interact in person appropriately with others tend to use the internet more often than most people. That IS the extent of their socializing with other people. The social groups serve a purpose, so that you don't HAVE to associate with those types of people when discussing something you may consider a serious topic or if you are seriously looking to vent about some personal issues in your life or something like that. I know of some posters who, if they mention anything about themselves on the forum, it never fails that some social retard scumbag will take it to the flamer zone to kick that person while that person is feeling down. So the idea behind the social groups is to be able to share some things and not include the losers. :)

I think some people don't really know what the word "trolling" means. There seems to be confusion about what is trolling. Trolling is when you make comments or start threads for the SPECIFIC purpose of garnering a negative reaction. Trolling is NOT when you are in a heated discussion and start getting a little aggressive. That is not trolling. That is normal human behaviors and emotions at play. Those things are not done on purpose just to get a reaction but is a reaction out of frustration or anger. Totally different from trolling.
