For instance, I generally side with Republicans, but during the Democratic speeches I found myself agreeing with their stance on "free" trade, i.e., we need a level playing field to protect American workers from hyper-cheap Chinese crap.

Does the party you don't side with support anything you do?

Im not from america, but I think the way you are so polorized in politics is a problem.
I agree mostly what the democrates stand for, but i dissagree with their possition on pulling out of iraq, as you need to finnish the job you shouldn't have started. your system seems to be rigged in favour of those that can manipulate, resulting in both parties seeming to be opposite but infact they are the same. the power of the american voter is very limited, and it seems very hard to speak out or protest against wrong doings. correct me if im wrong. the same is happening here in the UK where politics are being comercialised usuing sensationalisum in the media. turning it into a popularity contest, not a policy contest.
it seems in america to be able to engage in argument you need firstly to pick your side, and agree with everything that party agrees with. the right way is always a bit of both.

I don't feel any need to support everything ANY party says. I agree with you in the fact that many resort to hyper-partisanship and fear that if they disagree with a partys' stance on one issue that it somehow discredits everything else they have stood for.
A silly human notion that weakens us as a country imho.

Enemy party?...rather strong words don't you think?

Really? Name the last time you DIDN'T attack a republican? When you voted for one? And your just like Maineman , you refuse to ever critize any liberal under any circumstance. At least he is honest about why that is.

The last time I didn't do something? Are you serious? How about last night when I was sleeping, or before that when I was going out drinking?. Heh...I can't believe you just asked me to name the last time I didn't do something.

By the way...you seem to be confused as to the difference between disagreement with someone and thinking someone is their enemy. Oh, add that to the fact that you are pretty much the most partisan guy on here, and you really need to shut your trap about this crap.

By the way...do you consider Ruby a liberal? Then I suggest you check out the thread on religion.

You are ignorant of basic facts. The most partisan guy on here would be you tied with Maineman and a few other Liberals. You NEVER say anything EVER about any liberal no matter how outrageous, hurtful or absolutely WRONG they are. Not EVER. I on the other hand I do, in fact cal, anyone that makes stupid statements on them, to include conservatives and Republicans. Get back to me on ANY liberal you have EVER publicly disagreed with, EVER.

Lmfao...this statement is incredibly ironic.

Do I need to make my points bolded when I say them? Tell me RGS, what exactly do I need to do for you to read them?

From my last post...here it is again...please try not to demand things of me that I have just provided to you.

Oh my you have disagreed in a small way against someone that won't vote for your party anyway, I see, that makes it all better. Remind me how you disagree with her rants about mass murdering, Nazi American troops.

See, your problem is that you take the most uncharitable view of anything a liberal says and the most charitable view of anything a conservative says. So you expect me to condemn people because you misrepresent them. Sorry, ain't gonna happen.

You asked for something, I provided...proved you wrong basically. What a surprise that you didn't admit it and instead tried to squirm out of it...disagreed "in a small way"? No, not really. Nor did you realize that I was defending Christianity, something I'm none too fond of. But its just more of your continual misrepresentation of people.

I don’t have an “enemy” party. I don’t even have a party. I like some positions held by liberals. I like positions held by conservatives. I have friends on each side of the spectrum.

It's ok to attack your opponent's politics. But the biggest problem with overly partisan folk (like you, RGS, sorry) is that they DO see the opposition as being the "enemy"...

I don't remember it ever being so virulent in this country until the right freaked out over Bill Clinton. And now you're all surprised that you're treated in kind.

Me? I can think of a few folk to the right of me for whom I have very high regard... (though I wouldn't agree with them on all issues) Joe Scarborough, Chuck Hegel, Michael Bloomberg ... to name a few.

You have anyone on the left who you don't hate?

Hegel rips Bush and now you like him ?

There are issues that the Democrats support that I am not opposed to. I don't necessarily support these issues, I am ambivalent about them. Same sex marriage for example. It just doesn't matter to me and will have no real impact on my life.

Off the top of my head I can't think of an issue Dems support that I support.

Not even energy conservation so we can get off of our dependence on foreign oil?

Balanced budgets?

Fiscal responsibility?

And, yes, those last two used to be issues the repubs thought they had a lock on... ;o)

Democrats are NOT for a balanced budget nor Fiscal responsibility. Every time they have had an opportunity to vote on either of those, they vote no. Democrats are tax and spend, they not only raise taxes but when they do rather then use it to balance the budget or be fiscally responsible they spend MORE.

Remind us how the dems voted on allowing Social Security funds to ONLY be used for Social Security? Remind us who controlled congress in the 90's and forced Clinton to go along with "fiscal responsibility"? Remind us in the 90's who insisted Social Security was going broke, did nothing about it and then when Bush brought it up suddenly the system is sound and safe?

ive seen rgs take gunny to task over the word ****. Sure, he stands firm in his political opinions that I don't agree with but I agreed with him in that thread. It was an interesting interaction because they are both easily far, far to my right. It would be nice to see the same coming from my side more often.

and..

the 2nd amendment.. repeal it or learn to live with it.
